Oriana felt a warmth rise in her chest. “Why would you even think that? Micah and his grandfather are good people. They wouldn’t treat me any differently because of this.”
Zara blinked her big, tearful eyes. “Really? Micah won’t think I’m a headache?”
“He won’t. He’s not the type to fuss over things like that,” Oriana assured her softly. “If you’re still worried, I’ll call him right now and ask in front of you, okay?”
Zara hesitated, nodding weakly. She opened her mouth to say something, but before a word came out, her face suddenly went pale. She slapped a hand over her mouth and bolted straight for the bathroom.
“Zara?”
Oriana rushed after her, only to find Zara kneeling by the toilet, vomiting so hard it seemed like her insides might turn out.
Oriana’s expression changed instantly. She strode over, holding Zara steady with one hand while pressing her fingers gently to Zara’s pulse.,
Zara’s voice was faint and shaky. “I’m fine, Oriana. I’ve just been a little stressed lately, haven’t been eating right, probably just acid reflux-”
“Zara,” Oriana interrupted firmly, her tone serious. “We’re going to the hospital.”
Zara blinked, dazed. “What for?”
Oriana’s gaze didn’t waver. “You might be pregnant.”
Zara, dizzy and still clinging to the toilet, thought she’d misheard. “Wait–what? Preg–what now?”
She took the wet towel Oriana handed her, wiped her mouth, and let out a nervous laugh. “That’s impossible. I don’t even have a man. How could I possibly-”
Her words cut off mid–sentence.
Her face drained of color.
Hold on. That time with Kenny? Did I take the pill afterward
Zara froze, clutching her head.
God, how could I forget it?
Oriana didn’t wait for her to piece things together. She quickly cleaned her up, packed a few snacks for her, and practically dragged the dazed Zara out the door.
The nearest place was Jindiwood Port Hospital.
After running a round of tests, the two of them sat side by side in the corridor, waiting for the results.

Oriana unwrapped a pack of fish sausages. “It’s been over an hour since you last threw up. Want to try eating something?”
Zara took one and nibbled at it absentmindedly.
Normally, she loved this kind of junk food, but today she just looked drained.
Seeing her like that, Oriana gently rubbed her back in comfort.
After a moment’s thought, Oriana asked carefully, “When exactly did it happen?”
Zara grumbled under her breath. “The first two days after I got to Jindiwood.”
Oriana froze. “How–how did that even-”
“Ugh, it was an accident,” Zara cut in awkwardly.
Oriana’s expression turned grave. “Zara, was it consensual?”
“Uh, half and half, I guess?” Zara sighed. “I wasn’t really thinking straight, okay? I’d had some drinks, and the guy wasn’t bad–looking. Plus, he was pretty enthusiastic. And, well, one thing led to another.”
Truth be told, Zara could barely remember the details of that night.
She’d been tipsy, Kenny had been drugged, and the whole place was chaos. He’d been completely naked— nice face, decent body–and Zara’s self–control had just evaporated.
She hadn’t expected it to actually work after one time.
Wasn’t that guy supposed to be pure as snow? His first time, right?
And it hadn’t even lasted that long! How did it even take?
The results weren’t out yet, but Zara already trusted Oriana’s medical instincts–she was practically convinced she was pregnant.
Knowing Zara hadn’t been forced gave Oriana a small sense of relief.
A few minutes later, the doctor called them in.
“Early pregnancy,” the doctor announced. “Approximately four weeks.”
Zara blinked. “That can’t be right. The sex was only two weeks ago.”
The doctor glanced at her, explaining calmly, “In medical terms, pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last menstrual period.”
“Oh. Then yeah, I guess four weeks makes sense.” Zara slumped back down, her shoulders drooping.

“Are you a Jindiwood resident?” the doctor asked. “Would you like to register for prenatal care here? Or do you plan to terminate the pregnancy?”
