Chapter 400 The Great Family Background

Grant’s eyes burned red as he glared at the man who could openly hold Oriana in his arms.
He clenched his fists so hard his knuckles cracked, his voice a low, furious growl.
“How come I heard someone’s been spreading rumors about Micah and Oriana?”
The commanding voice sliced through the crowd like a thunderclap.
Everyone froze, turning toward the source. Under the escort of two neat rows of elite bodyguards, two dignified old men, each exuding their own brand of authority, walked in side. by side.
People instantly recognized Xander.
But the man who had spoken-
Someone in the crowd gasped aloud, “Mr. Noah Caldwell? The head of Caldwell Group?”
“What? You mean that Caldwell Group, the one with a global industrial chain? The company founded by the first domestic entrepreneur ever to make the richest guy rank thirty–six years ago?”
“That’s not even the half of it. The Caldwell Group’s been keeping a low profile these past ten years, but their family’s investments span across countless sectors. If all their assets were consolidated, they could rival an actual superpower!”
“Wait–Micah? You’re telling me Micah’s a descendant of the Caldwell family? He’s from that powerful lineage, and he’s still that hardworking? Damn, Micah’s so amazing!”
Noah’s sharp eyes swept across Grant, who stood frozen like a statue, before turning to Oriana with a genial smile. “Oriana,” he said warmly, “Xander and I are both here. If anyone’s been giving you trouble, just tell us. We’ll make sure they regret it.”
Xander didn’t speak, but his gaze followed Noah’s–soft, warm, unusually gentle as it fell on Oriana.
Oriana gave a small shake of her head and replied in a calm, steady tone, “It’s already been taken care of. Noah, Xander, there’s no need to get upset over something not worth it.”
Xander raised an eyebrow, while Noah narrowed his eyes thoughtfully before breaking into an amused grin.

“All right then, Oriana,” he said lightly. “We’ll do as you say. No hard feelings.”
A wave of gasps rippled through the onlookers.

“Oh my God! Forget Micah–the biggest winner here is his wife! Micah’s a genius in AI, Noah runs the company, and Mr. Stone’s her elder? She’s beyond blessed with that kind of family!”
“The best part is, they all dote on her–and actually listen to what she says. Not everyone gets that kind of love and respect!”
“Exactly! She’s got the status, the brains, and still stays humble. Even when people came at them head–on, both Micah and his wife stayed composed. If it were me, I’d have called security to throw them out already!”
“Mrs. Caldwell’s being pampered like that just proves she’s a good person–gracious, kind, and understanding. If she weren’t genuinely admirable, there’s no way all these people would stand by her.”
“Right! Micah’s love for his wife makes total sense. And Noah and Xander? They’re both sharp judges of character. They can tell who’s good and who’s rotten.”
Listening to the chatter, Xander felt a rare twitch of frustration.
When it came to judging character, he had to admit–he’d made mistakes before.
Among the crowd, Luna had also heard every word.
Her heart gave a hard jolt, and she instinctively looked toward Xander.
Since when had Oriana become so close to Xander?
And why hadn’t Luna known anything about it?
Her face drained of color as a horrible thought struck her.
Had Xander already found out she’d lied to him?
No–that couldn’t be. If he had known, he would’ve exposed her earlier, especially when she brought Grant to see him. He’d have lost his temper and taught her a brutal lesson on the spot.
But Xander hadn’t done a thing.
Luna glanced back at Noah and Xander, watching them walk shoulder to shoulder, and forced
herself to calm down.

Of course–that must be it. Oriana’s closeness to Xander was only because of her connection to the Caldwell family.
Clinging to that reasoning, Luna managed to slow her racing pulse, though the fire of jealousy in her chest roared ever hotter.
Seeing Oriana bask in admiration, Luna could almost taste the bitterness on her tongue.
Her hatred burned so fiercely that she wished she could scorch that proud, untouchable face into ashes.
The crowd kept swelling. For safety’s sake, Oriana and the others didn’t linger. Surrounded by their security team, they quietly exited the venue.
When they reached the front entrance and waited for the car to arrive, Xander stepped forward and stopped before Oriana. For the first time, he truly looked at her closely and searchingly.
