Luna’s face paled. “What? Oscar, you’re resigning? Why?” She swiftly turned to Grant, her voice tight with panic. “Grant, what’s going on? Why would Oscar want to leave now? Wasn’t the summit a success yesterday?”
Grant observed Oscar’s resolute expression, casually crossing his legs as a faint, dismissive smile touched his lips. “The substantial penalty for breach of contract… are you certain you can afford it?”
“You can direct all contractual matters to my legal counsel. Regardless, I will no longer work for you.” With that, Oscar set the document down and turned to leave without hesitation.
“Grant!” Luna cried out, seeking intervention.
But Grant remained unperturbed. “Let him go. Legal will handle it.”
Frustrated that events were spiraling beyond her control, Luna bit her lip and hurried after Oscar. “Oscar!”
She lunged forward, stopping the elevator doors from closing. “Explain yourself! What is this really about? You promised me you’d focus on helping Grant build his new AI empire! Why are you abandoning us now?”
Oscar reached for the door close button, his demeanor icy. “I owe you no explanation.”

“Oscar, there must be a misunderstanding,” she pleaded, desperation creeping into her voice. “Let’s find somewhere to talk, I can-”
“Unnecessary.” Oscar’s eyes were dark pools of finality. “Luna, did you truly believe we would remain your blind, devoted tools forever, ignorant of how you deceived us about Oriana? The misdeeds perpetrated by you and the Sterling family have been exposed!”

“Ex…posed?” The word left her lips as a frozen whisper, a chilling numbness spreading from her head to her toes. “You… know?”
“It’s not just us. Everyone else you manipulated with the same lies has awakened to the truth.” Each word was a hammer blow, shattering the fragile reality she had built.
A sickening dread hollowed out her chest, her mind reeling. Her lip before she managed a strangled, “Everyone?”

“Did you truly believe your scheme was flawless?” A grim, almost vengeful satisfaction hardened Oscar’s features as he watched the color drain completely from her face. He leaned closer, his voice low and precise. “When Ethan uncovered the truth at the Poweea clinic, both Xander and Soren were present as witnesses. Luna, you leveraged a fabricated debt to exploit sympathy, climbing onto a pedestal you never deserved and reaping rewards that were never rightfully yours. And we are not the only ones you deceived. All those influential figures you played for fools… they will not let this rest.” 2
The strength fled her legs. “No… It’s not possible…” Her arm, which had been blocking the elevator door, fell limply to her side.
A cold, unforgiving smile touched Oscar’s lips as he pressed the door close button, sealing Luna’s horrified, despised face away from his sight.
Luna stumbled backward into the corridor until her back hit the cold wall. “It can’t be… If they all knew, why didn’t they expose me yesterday…?”
Oscar’s final warning–they will not let this rest–echoed like a death knell in her mind. Her heart hammered violently, a frantic drumbeat of terror that seemed to shake her entire body, from her chest to the base of her spine. A profound, chilling horror engulfed her, one she could not suppress.
