After a moment of contemplation, Grant summoned Leonard, who had recently been hired and had previously worked for Micah.

Hearing this, Grant’s face became unreadable, swirling with dark, turbulent emotions.

Leonard’s smile widened, brimming with eager ambition. “If you’re satisfied with me, is there any task you need me to handle? I’ve been here for a while, but the department head hasn’t assigned me any real work. Mr. Holloway, could you give me a chance? I won’t let you down!”

Looking at the enthusiastic young man before him, Grant remained impassive. “No rush. The company just landed several major contracts. Many projects are in the preparation stage. When we need you, you’ll naturally be busy.”

Leonard’s eyes lit up, swallowing this ‘promise‘ whole. “Thank you, Mr. Holloway! I’ll get back to work now and not disturb you further.”

“Mhm, go ahead.”

Just as Leonard left, he ran into Alaric arriving.

“Mr. Moss!” Leonard beamed, giving an exaggerated bow.

Startled by his excessive enthusiasm, Alaric took two steps back. “Mhm.”

After Leonard left, Alaric watched his retreating, foolishly grinning figure, utterly baffled. He entered the office and closed the door behind him.

“Grant, what’s with that kid? Didn’t you specifically tell HR not to give him core tasks? What’s he so happy about?” Sitting in the swivel chair in front of the desk, Alaric rubbed his chin, confused. “But speaking of which, his resume isn’t bad, just lacks experience. We’re short- staffed now; he should be usable. Why aren’t we using him?”

Grant leaned back in his chair, unconcerned. “With just a few casual questions from me, he sold out Micah completely. Are you sure that if he jumps to another company later, he won’t sell us out too?”
