To Alaric’s surprise, as soon as he answered, Luna’s voice came through low and pleading. For a moment, he thought he’d imagined it, and it took him a while to pull himself together; his carefully prepared responses suddenly felt useless.
“Luna, don’t rush. You know how things have been blowing up online lately with all those nasty comments. The company has a lot waiting for Grant to handle. Right now, he’s in a meeting with the product team.”
Luna sniffled, sounding doubtful. “Really? I thought he was just ignoring me completely, that’s why he wouldn’t answer and even blocked me.”
Alaric’s mind went blank for a moment. He forced a nervous laugh. “There’s no way Grant blocked you. It’s got to be some kind of mistake. I’ll talk to him once the meeting’s over.”
“All right. I’ll wait till he’s done.”
On the other end, Luna blew her nose and seemed to steady herself. Then, with a gentler tone, she thanked Alaric.
“Thank you, Alaric. I’m grateful for your patience all this time. Every time Grant and I have a problem, you’re always there helping to mediate.”
“Uh, Luna, no need to be so formal. We all see how good you’ve been to Grant. If he’s happy, we’re happy! I’ve got something to take care of now–gotta go.”
Luna’s unusually polite and cooperative tone threw Alaric off. He quickly ended the strange call, scratching his head in confusion.
As he pondered, the meeting room door opened. The product team members came out looking dejected. Alaric hurried inside.
“Grant, they-”
Grant, exhausted both mentally and physically, sat at the head of the table, rubbing his tightly furrowed brow.
He lifted his eyelids and gave Alaric a steady look. “We’ve found an alternative. We’ll redo the prototype and test its effectiveness before moving forward.”
Hearing that, Alaric finally exhaled. The gloom that had clouded his face for days began to clear. “I knew you’d come up with something, Grant!”

“Oh, by the way, Luna called me just now.”
“Don’t mention that woman to me.”
Grant shut his eyes again, clearly unwilling to hear a single word about Luna.
“It’s not like that, Grant. Let me finish.”

Alaric recounted the call with Luna, then looked uncertainly at Grant. “Grant, maybe Luna has thought it through. She knows she loves you too much and can’t live without you, so she’s trying to apologize.”
At Alaric’s words, Grant raised an eyebrow, doubtful.
He stared at Alaric for a moment. “Are you sure it was really her who called?”
“Grant, do you think I’d get that wrong?”
Grant paused. “Doesn’t really sound like her.”
“Well, if you think about it, it kind of makes sense. Even though Luna did some crazy things, her core motivation was always for you. Otherwise, why didn’t she use those resources to help the Sterling Group?
“Now that her past mistakes are exposed, the Sterling family is calling her ungrateful. The school’s in trouble, too. She’s a woman, pregnant, and in the end, the only person she can still rely on is you, Grant. So, swallowing her pride and admitting fault is probably out of fear.”
Alaric went on analyzing aloud, but boiled it down to this. Luna loved Grant so much that she couldn’t let go.
It was all because Grant was too charming.
“Grant, for old times‘ sake, why not give her another chance? After all, she’s carrying your child. If she doesn’t take care of herself during pregnancy, the baby will suffer.”
Grant’s face gave away nothing for a moment before he said, “Understood.”
After assigning some tasks to Alaric, Grant paused for a moment and then removed Luna from his blacklist.
He listened to the voice message she sent. Regret and submission over their previous argument seeped through every word.
“Grant, I was really scared that day. I’ve never seen you look at me like that before, like I was a

“Yes, I know I made many mistakes, but I was just being greedy for a moment. Everyone makes impulsive mistakes sometimes.”
