The night before, they had chatted via voice call for half an hour before bed. After saying goodnight, Oriana hung up first.

Micah didn’t want the call to end. He wanted to listen to her breathing, pretending she was still by his side.

But Oriana didn’t agree. She said there were three other colleagues in the room with her, and keeping the call on speaker would be disrespectful to them. Micah didn’t press the matter.

After ending the call, he got out of bed and went to the walk–in closet. He found the set of pajamas she wore most often and gathered them into his arms. Holding them brought him some comfort, but he still couldn’t fall into a deep sleep.

He didn’t want to put her in a difficult position, so he didn’t mention this to her.

Who would have thought the heartless Oriana would instead comfort him, saying he’d just have to keep missing her for another ten days or so.

A knot of frustration formed in Micah’s chest, with no outlet in sight.

Noticing his increasingly sullen expression, Oriana gave a helpless laugh. “Alright, I’m done with my work. I need to hurry and take a nap. We have to assemble at two o’clock.”

Micah glanced at the time on his phone screen. It was less than fifty minutes until two. His eyes softened. “Go ahead. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

“I’m not tired! Learned a lot this morning, it’s been really fulfilling!”

Oriana proactively blew a kiss into the camera, then hung up the call and packed her things to go inside for her nap.

In Jindiwood, on Micah’s end, he reluctantly put down his phone. Right on cue, Kieran knocked and entered, bringing Nelson with him.

A few nurses waited outside the door. Micah didn’t spare them a glance.

Micah lifted his chin slightly towards Nelson. “Begin.”

Nelson observed Micah’s complexion and state, hesitating. “Mr. Caldwell, haven’t you been sleeping well recently?”

Seeing he didn’t wish to elaborate, Nelson asked no further. He instructed the nurses to bring in the items for the injection, administered it to Micah himself, and then the entire group withdrew from the room, leaving him to rest.

Outside the room, Kieran followed the procedure by asking Nelson a few questions about Micah’s condition. Afterwards, Nelson left two nurses on duty and departed himself, while Kieran remained stationed outside the door.

Not long after, a furtive figure appeared at the far end of the corridor.

“Mr. Duke!”

Henley wore an ingratiating smile that was almost grotesque, bowing and scraping as he shuffled towards Kieran.

At the sight of the visitor, Kieran’s face turned icy. “What are you doing here?”

Henley opened his mouth to speak, but Kieran immediately shot him a look that commanded silence.

Then, instructing the two nurses by the door to keep watch, Kieran led Henley a few steps

away.

They moved to a relatively quiet corner of the corridor, a spot where he could still keep an eye on the door to Micah’s rest room. Kieran’s brows were tightly knit.

He asked. “What are you doing here?”

Henley rubbed his hands together nervously, his grin widening unnervingly. “Well, you see, Mr. Duke, didn’t you tell me before that if I proved myself useful, I could get to see Mr. Caldwell and my cousin Oriana? I’ve truly turned over a new leaf–I exposed all of Luna’s dirty deeds to Grant. Grant must absolutely despise her by now. So… doesn’t this count as making up for my past mistakes?”

Kieran stared at Henley with an inscrutable expression.

After the summit incident, seeing the online buzz and the image of Micah and Oriana standing together as a loving couple, Henley’s first instinct was to secure a more solid patron for himself.

Despite being a good–for–nothing most of the time, Henley’s nose for which way the wind was blowing was sharper than a hound’s.
