Chuck stepped forward to greet him. “Mr. Sullivan.”
“Director Hill.”

Kai’s gaze swept over Lottie, who had been so aggressive moments before. He then addressed the group, reiterating firmly, “All interactions between Oriana and me during last night’s dinner were entirely appropriate. In fact, I must thank Dr. Sterling for her swift intervention, which prevented a choking incident that could have sent me to the hospital.”
With that, Kai glanced at his manager, who stepped forward professionally, phone in hand. “Due to work protocols, we generally avoid taking personal photos during team gatherings. However, last night’s incident was sudden–I nearly dialed 911. Here is my call log from last night.
“As for the online rumors regarding the photos, our company’s senior management is treating this matter with utmost seriousness. The PR department has been mobilized to handle it. We will issue an official statement clarifying the normal, professional relationship between Mr. Sullivan and Dr. Sterling, and we will vigorously pursue legal action against the source of these slander. We ask for a little time from everyone, and especially from Dr. Sterling. We will absolutely clear her name!”
The manager’s firm, resolute guarantee shocked the crowd.
Chuck nodded and looked towards Audrey. “Dr. Bishop, do you have any further objections now?”
Audrey’s face showed clear embarrassment. She felt that by speaking up for Lottie just now, she had essentially set herself up for another public rebuke.
But she didn’t show much, merely saying politely, “Since it’s a misunderstanding, everyone can naturally rest assured.”
“Alright, we’ve wasted enough time on this. Self–criticism reports will resume tomorrow. Now, everyone, prepare for your patient visits.”
The group dispersed to join their respective teams.
As Oriana moved to follow Chuck’s team, Kai quickly approached, his face filled with regret. “I’m so sorry! This is all my fault!”
Kai apologized profusely, his expression and eyes visibly filled with regret.

Seeing the torrent of online abuse directed at Oriana had made his eyes burn with fury. He wanted nothing more than to confront those keyboard warriors head–on!
He felt utterly stupid and useless!
He only wanted to be nice to Oriana, to make sure she had a decent meal. How could he have foreseen it would trigger such a media firestorm, setting her up to be the target of a smear campaign and thrusting her right into the center of the scandal?
Even his manager approached with a quiet sigh. “Dr. Sterling, we truly are sorry this time. We were careless!”
Preventing unauthorized photos was supposed to be their responsibility. They never imagined Oriana would become the target.
Both Kai and his team naturally assumed the photo leak was the work of a rival or a paparazzo who had followed them for a sensational story.
It was an entirely normal dinner, yet they lacked concrete evidence to prove their innocence— a situation that greatly troubled the manager.
Oriana looked at them, then said thoughtfully, “Before the full picture emerges, it’s impossible to determine where the blame truly lies.”
Kai blinked, instinctively responding, “Of course it’s me implicating you! You implicating me… how could that even be implicating? That would be us facing adversity together!”
His utterly matter–of–fact tone left Oriana momentarily speechless.
The medical teams were starting to depart. Oriana didn’t have time for a lengthy chat. After bidding them farewell, she followed her team.
Kai watched her slender figure retreat. The moment she was gone, the contrite, puppy–dog expression vanished from his face, replaced by coldness.
He instructed his manager, “Tell the PR team if they don’t have this online attack under control by this afternoon, I’ll go live myself and issue a statement!”
The manager’s face changed. “Don’t be impulsive! That could make things worse!”
“How much worse could it possibly get? Let them lay all the blame on me–I’ll take it. But targeting someone who can’t even fight back? That’s just cowardly!” A furious, almost feral glint flashed in Kai’s eyes.
His manager saw his resolve was absolute. Arguing was pointless. All she could do was let out a

Just before the teams departed, Audrey pulled Lottie aside for a private word.

For the first time, Audrey’s tone was uncharacteristically stern as she questioned her. “Lottie, about those photos… is there something you know?”
A cold knot of dread tightened in Lottie’s stomach.
But she masked her panic expertly. Lifting her head, she wore a look of profound hurt, her eyes instantly welling with tears. “Dr. Bishop… even you don’t trust me?”
