Feeling Audrey’s high regard, Lottie’s mood improved significantly.

She stuck out her tongue playfully, linking her arm with Audrey’s. “Sorry, Dr. Bishop. I was just upset and blurted out nonsense. Please don’t take it to heart.”

Audrey patted her hand. “Those who know you understand you’re ambitious and driven. But other department heads will only see someone who has lost sight of her core purpose in the heat of competition.”

She paused, then added, “I believe you had nothing to do with those photos. Later, I’ll put in a good word for you with Director Hill. Stick close to him and learn. His skills and experience are substantial. It will be good for you.”

“Understood. I knew it–you’re the best to me in the whole hospital!”

A few well–placed words from Lottie smoothed over the remaining wrinkles in Audrey’s mind. Audrey’s team was waiting for her to lead them out, so their conversation was brief.

Once Audrey left, Lottie’s attention drifted back toward Oriana and Kai.

Even from a distance, she had been keeping tabs on them.

She had heard it clearly–Kai apologizing to Oriana!

Luna displayed none of the airs of a mistress of the house, her demeanor gentle and approachable. “Since I can’t go out, I can at least handle small tasks. I already feel bad having you run errands for me.”

Ella accepted the heavy thermos, her face a mix of delight and sentimentality. “Madam, you are so considerate of Mr. Holloway. He is truly fortunate to have a wife like you!”

“Oh, Ella, don’t tease me.”

“Right. I’ll deliver this soup to Mr. Holloway now. Madam, you rest well. I’ll finish the cleaning when I return.”

Luna smiled and bid Ella farewell.

Turning, she saw her phone screen lighting up with incoming messages, Luna settled gracefully onto the sofa and opened them.

Reading Lottie’s lengthy outpouring of frustration, Luna blinked slowly and typed a reply. “Lottie, you’re being shortsighted. These things mean nothing to Oriana. And I’m certain Kai will swiftly intervene to clear her name.”
