Chapter 482 A Family Outing
Zara quickly slowed her pace. “I’m being careful.”

Then she shot a glance at the man beside her, whose expression was as sour as a blocked drain, and offered a thin, insincere smile. “I slept too much this afternoon and can’t fall asleep now. I asked Kenny to drive me out to catch a movie.”
“A movie? Isn’t it a bit late?” Niamh hesitated.
Noah, however, waved a dismissive hand. “What’s the harm? Zara rests at home all day. If she’s feeling good and wants to have fun, let her. It’s not that late; they’ll be back by midnight or so.”
Noah was quite indulgent with the younger generation.
Hearing this, Niamh didn’t argue further.
After all, Noah had a point–nothing was more important than the expectant mother’s own happiness.
Even Cordell spoke to Kenny, “What are you waiting for? Go get the car. The garage is a bit of a walk. Don’t make Zara trek that far with you.”
Afraid the silent Kenny might suddenly blurt something out, Zara hurried forward a few steps and linked her arm through his. “It’s fine! We’ll take a little stroll. Goodbye-”
With a sweet farewell, she promptly dragged the visibly displeased Kenny out the door.
Watching their awkward yet harmonious retreating figures, Noah’s eyes crinkled into a pleased smile.
“I must say, this young couple is quite amusing.”
Cordell and Niamh exchanged a look but offered no comment.
In the
past, they would never have approved of a daughter–in–law like Zara.
If not for Kenny’s current condition…
But what was done was done. Regretting it was useless. All they could hope for now was Zara’s safe and smooth delivery.
As for anything more, they didn’t want to invite further complications.

“Hey, who are you making that grim face for?” Zara demanded, dropping Kenny’s hand as soon as they were far enough from the house.
She rubbed her slender arm in annoyance.
Seriously, he didn’t help at all—I was the one doing all the pulling!
Witnessing her two–faced act–sweet at home, sharp in private–Kenny curled his lip into a mocking sneer. “You’re so selfish.”
Zara gaped at him. “What? I’m selfish?”
“Yeah, you are!”
Kenny lashed out bluntly, his voice low and heated. “All you cared about was whether Oriana got hurt. What was that about Micah’s injury being ‘the lesser loss‘? Oriana is flesh and blood. So is Micah! Is his pain worth less?”
By the time he finished, his eyes were rimmed with red, a mix of anger and raw hurt.
Zara was stunned into silence.
It took her a moment to find her voice again. “Have you completely lost your
mind?
“Where am I wrong? Micah getting hurt is better than Oriana getting hurt! Let’s be real: if Micah is injured, it’s just physical pain for him. But if Oriana got hurt, don’t you think Micah would suffer more?”
Zara looked at him with utter disdain, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Do you even know Micah? If something serious happened to Oriana, it would devastate him a thousand times more than any injury to himself. If things got really bad, he’d probably end up hurting himself just to share her pain.
“Right now, he’s the one hurt, and Oriana is safe. He’s probably relieved and grateful. Plus, he gets Oriana fussing over him hand and foot. He couldn’t ask for a sweeter deal.”
Zara poked Kenny’s chest with her finger. “Isn’t that the most cost–effective outcome with the lowest overall damage? If you don’t believe me, call Micah right now and ask him if I’m not absolutely right!”
With that, she shoved her phone into his hands.
The night wind seemed to carry Zara’s torrent of complaints and lectures, slapping them

against his face. Kenny stood frozen, clutching her phone, utterly speechless.
His face, already dark with displeasure, now looked as black as a burnt pot.

Watching his anger shift from bewildered outrage to sullen, stifled frustration, Zara gave an exasperated sigh and pursed her lips.
“So? Have you come to your senses yet? Still planning to barge in on Micah? Still want to make that call?”
Before Kenny could utter a word, she held up a finger, cutting him off. “I can guarantee you: if you dare go ruin the romantic reunion Micah has been looking forward to for days, he’ll chop you into pieces.”
