His lips lightly brushed against hers, his whispered words thick with remorse, even his breath trembling with careful restraint. “I’m sorry.”
Oriana leaned her head against his, feeling his warmth and breathing in his scent. She felt utterly at peace.
She nuzzled against him, still confused. “Why… are you apologizing?”
Micah’s long, dark lashes fluttered slightly before finally closing tightly, a low murmur of anguish escaping. “I lied to you, love. You said you hate being deceived… Will you hate me?”
Oriana rubbed her eyes and opened them blearily, only to realize it was already two or three in the morning.
With a start, she sat bolt upright.
Staring blankly at the empty bedroom, she pressed a hand to her head, belatedly remembering something. She quickly threw off the blanket.
She had hidden the pink outfit under a couple of extra layers. Seeing it still safely tucked away, she let out a huge sigh of relief…
Well, she hadn’t actually acted like a rogue.
But… how did she fall asleep?
Did she just pass out after drinking?
And why did she vaguely remember Micah being in the room too?
It seemed like later, he held her for a long, long time–so long that she felt something cool against her neck…
Oriana instinctively touched her clothes and realized she was now wearing her pajamas.
Thinking of the only possible explanation, she patted her cheeks, trying to chase away the awkward feeling of shame.
“That wine of Zara’s really has quite a kick.”
Oriana held her head, trying to recall, but nothing solid came to mind. She eventually gave up.
The house was silent. As Oriana stepped out of the room, a small light suddenly switched on in the dark living room, followed by the sound of Chubby rolling over.
“Oriana, good morning!” it chirped, though ‘good morning‘ at this hour felt a bit off.
Oriana smiled wryly, holding Chubby’s “wing.” “Where’s your dad?”
“Daddy is in the study, working hard to earn money to feed Chubby and Oriana!”
Oriana paused. It was almost three in the morning, and he was still working? It seemed the urgent matter he had to attend to in the afternoon was truly important.

Thinking this, she made her way to the study.
The door was slightly ajar, the blue glow from several monitors lighting up two walls of the room.
Micah looked up from the screens. “Feeling better?”
Oriana felt a little embarrassed. She scratched her cheek. “Sorry for the trouble, making you take care of me.”
“Next time you want to drink, let me know beforehand. I’ll drink with you,” he offered considerately.
Oriana felt even more awkward.

Now that she was sober and clear–headed, she certainly wasn’t going to admit that she drank to muster the courage to coax him.
But…
“Ahem!” Oriana stood nervously at the doorway, her hands clasped in front of her, index fingers tapping together.
“So… um, when I was drunk, I didn’t say anything strange or do anything… terrible, did I?” she ventured tentatively.
Micah fell silent for a moment.
This episode of blindness had lasted about four hours.
He had regained his sight in the early hours of the morning.
After carrying Oriana back to bed and changing her clothes, he went to the kitchen to make congee, worried she might wake up hungry.
Even now, after nearly two hours in front of the screens, his mind felt numb, his actions driven by habit rather than thought.
His soul seemed to still be frozen in that moment when she answered.
Back then, her response had been clear, unreserved, and without the slightest hesitation. “Yes, I would. If you lied to me, I would hate you.
“Micah, you absolutely, absolutely must not lie to me. I would be disappointed and heartbroken.
“And… I would never trust you again.”
That was her true feeling.
“Micah? What’s wrong?”
His thoughts were pulled back by Oriana’s soft call.
Micah blinked and answered her anxious waiting. “No, you just told me not to be angry, and then you fell asleep.”
“Oh, really? That’s good.” Oriana let out a small, relieved breath.
Micah looked puzzled. “Why?”
“Ah, it’s nothing, haha… Did you have dinner? I’m a little hungry…”

“There’s spinach, beef, and egg congee in the kitchen,” Micah said, standing up and walking toward her. “Last night you said you wanted something thick and creamy, so I added eggs to make it more viscous.”
Oriana’s eyes lit up. “You remembered!”
“Of course. I remember everything you say.”
He reached her side and naturally took her hand.
Micah had always loved physical contact with her. Even something as simple as holding hands, he could maintain without letting
Oriana studied the expression on his face and couldn’t help but smile, “So… Mr. Caldwell, are you no longer upset?”
