He had dropped out of the research program and had only been reporting to this hospital for a month, currently rotating through several departments.
“The environment here is quite nice.” Luna’s gaze swept around the consultation room before settling on James’s face.
James felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Back then, he’d been quite warm toward her.
But after discovering her true nature, he had grown to despise her.
Yet, against all odds, he found himself forced to bow to reality, now owing her a favor.
James asked, “Why have you come all of a sudden?”
He hadn’t been unaware of the online gossip and knew Luna’s situation was no longer what it
once was.
Having lost the protection of Cormac and Leo, the Sterling family seemed to be struggling, and then there was Grant…
Grant’s reputation was still holding on. There had been a hiccup around the AI Summit, but recent marketing efforts had somewhat salvaged his dignity.
Still, James had seen the rumors about their marriage–they didn’t seem to be doing too well.
But looking at Luna’s meticulously put–together appearance, he swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue.
She didn’t exactly look like she was having a hard time.
Of course not. A woman like her would never let herself appear to be struggling.
Luna offered a casual smile. “Well, the baby in my belly is almost seven weeks along now. I’m here for a check–up.”
“Are you setting up your prenatal file at our hospital? Sure, I can start the paperwork-”
“I’m not setting up a file. I just want the test results.”
James’s fingers paused over the keyboard. “What do you mean?”
Luna stared directly at him, without a trace of evasion. “I went to great lengths to get you

placed in the obstetrics and gynecology department precisely for this moment.
“I’m not pregnant. But I need Grant to believe my child is developing perfectly.”
James stared in disbelief. “You’re insane. You want me to falsify records for you?”
Luna raised an eyebrow. “Is that a problem?”

“Of course it’s a problem!” James replied without hesitation. “If we get caught, I’ll be fired!”
“I got you in here. I can make sure you’re thrown out just as easily.”
A smile spread across Luna’s face, brazen and unapologetic. “James, you should cherish this opportunity. After all, you’re just a junior doctor who dropped out of your research program. If you want to stay in Jindiwood, you have to offer something.”
Her threat was naked. “You wouldn’t want to disappoint the parents who’ve worked so hard to put you through medical school, would you?”
James’s eyes trembled—
On the desk, his fists clenched tightly, shaking slightly from the effort of suppressing overwhelming emotions.
In the end, he surrendered. “What do you want me to do?”
A triumphant smile curled Luna’s lips. “I’ll tell you what I need, and you’ll do it. Don’t worry, you’ll be well compensated.”
James’s family was not well–off. To support his medical studies, his parents in the countryside had given everything they had.
Luna knew exactly how to pressure him and chose that moment to slide a bank card across the table.
“The PIN is your old lab student ID number. You’ll get a payment for every check–up you handle for me. You’re doing me a huge favor. I’ll remember it.”
James’s gaze fell on the card. “Why? Why would you lie to your husband if you’re not pregnant?”
“What else could it be?”
Luna’s smile was utterly sincere. “Because I love him, of course.”
Two hours later, Luna returned to Borian House
