Chapter 530 Aftermath
Silence finally reclaimed the office.
Jonathan’s soft sniffles broke the quiet. “Mr. Holloway, I’ll step out now.”

Only then did Grant seem to register her presence. Taking in her injuries–he knew Sloane’s heavy hand all too well–he understood her delicate skin couldn’t have withstood it. “You’ve been wronged,” he said, gently lifting her swollen wrist and running his thumb over it. His eyes held a pained tenderness as he studied her scratched face. “Go home and rest. I’ll approve sick leave for the next few days. Once I wrap up work tonight, I’ll take you shopping. I’ve noticed you eyeing those bracelets lately–I’ll get you one.”
Every word carried the unspoken weight of compensation.
Jonathan nearly ground her teeth to dust.
So I needed to get hurt to earn a bracelet?

“Thank you, Mr. Holloway. It’s just… I don’t want to be the kind of person your aunt described,” she murmured, her expression downcast.
“Silly, don’t take her words to heart.” Grant patted her head, his voice softening. “You’re mine. You only need to listen to me.”
“But Mrs. Holloway… in the end, I’m the one who wronged her…”
A shadow flickered in Grant’s eyes. “There’s nothing left between us. We’re just waiting for the child to be born.”
Jonathan lowered her gaze and fell silent.
In the original story, Luna and Grant had shown no signs of pregnancy or children, even up until Micah’s revenge. She hadn’t expected Grant to place such importance on an heir. But then again, it made sense–orphaned, the last of his line, that obsessive need for a blood legacy was only natural.
Still, since they’d never had children in the original plot, it seemed perfectly reasonable that Luna might not carry this pregnancy to term either.
A cold, sharp glint surfaced in Jonathan’s eyes.
Under the meticulous guidance of the master roaster, the four of them transformed three burlap sacks of raw coffee beans into six batches of freshly roasted blends.

And at Zara’s insistent prodding, they even prepared a special “Kenny’s Charred Batch” from the beans he’d nearly burned to a crisp.
Kenny’s expression turned dark.
But Zara cradled the finished product like a treasure, refusing to let anyone else touch it.
Oriana found it utterly amusing. “Guarding it so preciously–planning to gift it to Grandpa?” Knowing Zara, she was certain her friend wouldn’t miss this golden opportunity to tease Kenny relentlessly.
Zara raised a finger and shook it mysteriously. “Actually, I’m saving it as an option for the baby’s gift to choose.”
Oriana blinked. “Huh?”
With complete seriousness, Zara declared, “If my little one is unlucky enough to grab this charred batch, it’ll mean just one thing.”
This time, even Kenny couldn’t help but speak up, “What?”
Even Micah glanced over, a flicker of curiosity in his eyes.
Zara’s voice rang out clear and bright. “It’ll mean my kid takes after their dad–utterly unreliable! At that point, my in–laws better start planning ahead and leave the little one a hefty trust fund!”
She then turned to Oriana, seeking praise. “Well Am I not the most thoughtful mom? I definitely don’t want my baby struggling later on”
Kenny was lost for works.
Oriana leaned against Micah, both trembling with suppressed laughter. They’d already laughed enough today–any more and their cheeks would ache long before Kenny’s patience snapped.
The four of them took a leisurely drive through the winding streets of the small town, with no destination in mind, simply enjoying the quiet charm of the lanes and alleys.
As evening fell, their car pulled up outside a well–known fondue restaurant.
Being in the region, they had to try the local fungi–the most famed item on the culinary map. It wasn’t quite the season for fresh foraging, so the restaurant’s offerings were limited, mostly preserved through freezing, but it was still worth a taste for the experience.
Zara took charge of ordering. Oriana and Micah found seats first, finally freeing a moment to check their phones.
With the four of them away, the most concerned was undoubtedly Noah. He’d probably have loved to install trackers on all of them, watching their every move in real time to ensure nothing went amiss.
Of course, Oriana was sure Kenny was also fielding his share of anxious messages from his mother, Niamh.
Right now, the entire Caldwell family’s focus was fixed on the baby growing in Zara’s belly- they were terrified of the slightest mishap.
Just as Zara and Kenny returned from ordering, Oriana’s phone chimed. A video call from Noah.
“Mr. Caldwell.”
“Well now, look at you! Having dinner, are you?” On the screen, Noah beamed at them.
