Chapter 534 Morning After
Micah’s expression shifted subtly. “Are you sure you want to know, sweetheart?”
“On second thought, never mind. I don’t want to know.”
Oriana quickly stopped him, fearing whatever he might say would only deepen her embarrassment.

Just then, Zara’s voice called from outside, asking if they were up. Oriana called back a quick affirmation, hastily supporting her sore lower back as she slipped out of bed and hurried into the bathroom to freshen up.
Micah’s gentle gaze followed her flustered retreat, the warmth in his eyes gradually shadowed by a layer of somberness.
Today’s itinerary was far more relaxed than the previous day’s. The four of them rented a car and drove to a forest park on the outskirts of the town. It was famous for allowing close encounters with various animals—a highly anticipated destination for Zara, who adored visiting zoos and aquariums.
The sun beat down even more fiercely than yesterday, prompting all four to don full sun- protection gear.
Once in the car with the GPS running, Kenny took the wheel, Zara settled into the passenger seat with an assortment of snacks, and Oriana and Micah occupied the back.
In the earlier rush, Oriana hadn’t had a chance. Now with a moment to spare, she asked Kenny, “Did you feel any… effects from the mushrooms last night?”
“Me?” Kenny shrugged. Felt nothing.”
Zara twisted around in her seat, eyes gleaming with excitement. “Oriana, did you see hallucinations?”
Not only did I see hallucinations, but I also… Oriana’s answer was evasive. “Hmm, maybe? I’m not really sure. It’s all a bit fuzzy.”
“Ooh, what was it like? What did you feel?”
“It was… kind of like being tipsy, but somehow clearer–headed than when you’re actually drunk.”
Zara stroked her chin thoughtfully. “Maybe you didn’t eat enough! You probably need a bigger portion for the full effect!”

Chapter 534 Morning After
What kind of logic was that? Oriana could only shake her head with a wry smile.
Just then, her phone vibrated twice with an incoming message.

To her surprise, the sender was her former academic advisor from Seabar University, whom she hadn’t been in touch with for a while. He seemed to have just learned about the recent online rumors and was checking in on her.
Oriana expressed her sincere gratitude. “Mr. Lynch, thank you for your guidance and care during my studies.”
Truth be told, if it hadn’t been for Michael helping her keep things from her family and facilitating her transfer application to Jindiwood University’s Medical College as a teaching assistant, Oriana might still be entangled in various complications back in Seabar.
Michael replied, “Your diligence during your university years was evident to all your teachers, Oriana. You are a hardworking and dedicated student. The field of medicine especially needs talented and resilient individuals like you. I merely did what any educator should.”
A soft, grateful smile touched Oriana’s lips. She made a mental note to thank him in person next month when she returned to Seabar for her final graduation defense.
In Seabar University’s cafeteria, having just ended his chat with Oriana, Michael set down his phone. The department head seated across from him, Mia, noticed the contact name on his screen and remarked with surprise, “Mr. Lynch, were you just messaging that Oriana Sterling, the one who transferred to Jindiwood?”
M.chael made no attempt to hide it, nodding. “Yes, she was one of my students.”
Mia’s eyes filled with envy. “She’s quite the celebrity now. Married well, comes from a good family… She’s so fortunate. So young, venturing all the way to a distant city like Jindiwood, a complete stranger there, and yet she managed to find such an ideal match so quickly.”
Michael raised an eyebrow, offering a reply. “You could also say… her ideal match found her.”
Mia was taken aback. “What does that mean? Are you saying…”
Michael waved a hand dismissively with a light laugh. “It’s nothing. Let’s eat.”
After lunch, the two parted ways to return to their respective faculty lounges.
As Michael turned a corner, someone tapped him on the shoulder from behind. Thinking it was Mia, he began, “Was there something else you…”
Before he could finish turning his head, a sharp numbness shot through the back of his neck, and his world went dark.
