“Luna, darling, don’t worry. I really chewed Grant out good yesterday. I’m sure he cares about you and the baby. He promised me he’d come back to you as soon as he wraps up his work. Just rest easy and take good care of yourself during your pregnancy. Eat well and get all the nourishment you need–it’s all for the baby. Promise me you won’t skip any meals, okay?”

Sloane had phoned several times, patiently trying to reassure Luna, who played the part of the dutiful, patient wife, meekly agreeing without a hint of protest.

Truth be told, Sloane herself had no real idea when Grant would actually return to Luna. She’d expected him back last night, but he’d claimed he needed to “comfort” the woman Sloane had injured—a claim that had infuriated her. At least Grant hadn’t openly defied her a second time.

Shortly after Sloane ended the call, the facial recognition lock on the front door chimed.

The housekeeper, Ella, brightened and turned to the impassive Luna. “Madam, it’s Mr. Holloway! He’s home!”

Luna started, a flicker of what seemed like genuine delight crossing her pale features. She looked over and saw it was indeed Grant, returning after several days away.

“Grant.” Luna hurried over in quick, small steps, smoothly taking the suit jacket draped over his arm.

As she did, a faint fragrance wafted past her nose. A brief chill flashed in Luna’s eyes. Grant never wore cologne. This scent undoubtedly belonged to that woman. He must have just dragged himself away from her cozy nest, returning reluctantly! What a despicable pair!

She casually draped the jacket over her own arm and looked up, having perfectly masked all traces of her true feelings. Her eyes now shone with a practiced, eager smile as she gazed at Grant. “Grant, you’re not working today? I know you’re terribly busy. If you really don’t have the time, you didn’t need to make a special trip.” She spoke with such ‘consideration‘.

Grant loosened his tie, his gaze sweeping over her face like still water. “Weren’t you said to be unable to eat or sleep from missing me?” Not waiting for a reply, he walked toward the living area. “Just finished the morning meeting. Nothing pressing. I can stay with you the next couple of days.”

A slight curve touched Luna’s lips. “Mhm, as long as it doesn’t interfere with work, that’s fine.”

“Come here. Let me see you.”

Grant settled on the sofa, his tone carrying the weight of an imperial command. Their relationship had, imperceptibly, long shifted into this dynamic.

Luna’s eyes gleamed, and she glided toward him

Grant’s attention barely grazed her face. Had he looked closer, he might have spotted the cold fissures beneath her smiling mask. But he didn’t–one might even say he couldn’t be bothered to look. Instead, his focus dropped to her abdomen with a frown, and he reached out to touch it.

“Why isn’t it showing more? You had your check–up yesterday. What did the doctor say?”

Thanks to Sloane’s constant ‘concern‘, Luna was prepared. She handed him the report. “The doctor said the baby’s development is normal. It’s just positioned quite far back, and I’m naturally slender, so it won’t show for a while yet” She added casually, “Remember when we ran into the Caldwells–Kenny Caldwell and his wife Zara–at City Hall? Her due date should be close to mine, and she isn’t showing much either.”

The mention of that chance encounter instantly darkened Grant’s expression, as if it had tugged on some unwanted memory.

A cold smirk curled inside Luna’s heart–she knew he was thinking of Oriana again. How pathetic, she sneered inwardly. She simply folded his suit jacket, placed it beside the sofa, and moved toward the kitchen.

Seeing this, Ella quickly interjected, “Madam, please, just tell me what you need! You should stay with Mr. Holloway. It’s rare for him to be home.”

“It’ll only take a moment,” Luna said. “I’m just checking on the soup.”
