Seeing that Ella had left without suspicion, Luna turned around. She opened a small medicine bottle hidden in her pocket. She poured the white powder into an empty bowl. Then, she ladled steaming hot chicken soup over it.
Luna stirred the mixture carefully. She watched as the powder’s color completely dissolved and disappeared. Only then did she carry the bowl out.
“Grant, the chicken soup is ready. You’ve been working so hard. Please, have it while it’s hot.”
Grant was lost in thought. Hearing Luna’s voice, he seemed to return to the present. He watched as the woman settled gracefully beside him.
Seeing her so submissive and attentive, Grant’s expression softened slightly. “You’re carrying the child. You’re the one who’s tired. You drink it!”
Luna’s face took on a look of deep emotion. Her eyes instantly welled up with tears. She choked out, “Grant… you… you still care about me…”
Her demeanor perfectly mimicked someone overwhelmed with gratitude, on the verge of joyful tears.
Seeing Luna act this way, Grant could only believe she loved him too deeply. No matter how fierce their past arguments, how harsh the words, how ugly the scenes, she must still love him in her heart. Otherwise, why would she have had Ella constantly deliver soup to him? It was her way of reaching out, wanting him to come back to her.
He figured Sloane’s visit yesterday was probably also at Luna’s urging.
After all, if a woman was willing to bear a man’s child, her heart and eyes naturally belonged to that man alone.
Thinking this, a touch of calmness settled on Grant’s face. Under Luna’s insistent gaze, he took the bowl.
“I’ll drink it. Don’t cry. Didn’t Auntie Sloane say emotional ups and downs aren’t good for the baby?”
“Mhm, I know. I won’t cry. I’m just… happy.” Luna stared at him with intense focus. The joy in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Grant’s masculine pride was satisfied. He lifted the bowl of soup. Under Luna’s expectant gaze, he was about to drink it all in one go.
Suddenly, his phone rang.

This was the special ringtone he’d set for his contact in Scabar. It was to ensure he received news as soon as possible.
He answered immediately. Whatever the person on the other end said, a gleam of excitement appeared on Grant’s face. “Keep a close eye on him. I’m coming now.”
He hung up the phone. Impatiently, he stood up and headed for the door.
Luna watched his retreating back with a look of disappointment. “Grant… are you leaving already? We haven’t even had a meal together….”
Remembering Sloane’s lecture, Grant turned back. He wore a rare smile for her. “I have a business trip. Wait for me to come back.”
Seeing Grant was already at the foyer putting on his shoes, Luna bit her lip. Unwilling to give up, she hurried over with the soup bowl again. “At least finish the soup before you go. Something to line your stomach.”
Without even looking, Grant took it, drank it down, and shoved the empty bowl back into her hands. He spoke, “Thoughtful of you. Rest well. I’ll visit next time.”
His words were followed by the cold, final sound of the door closing.
Ella came out from the balcony. “Mr. Holloway… he’s gone?”
“Yes.”
Seeing Luna still standing motionless, Ella didn’t dare approach. She offered, “Madam, try not to worry too much Perhaps Mr. Holloway is genuinely very busy.”
“It’s fine. I understand him.”
In a corner Ella couldn’t see, Luna stared at the empty soup bowl. A snister spread across her face.
“Ella, I’m going out.”
Ella assumed Luna wanted her to come along. “Madam, give me a moment. I’ll get my and accompany you-”
“No need. Stay and look after the house. I’ll go out for a walk by myself.”
Luna placed the bowl back on the table. Without touching the food, she went into the bedroom, gathered a few things, and left as well
