Kenny was becoming more and more convinced that Zara’s mouth was born to oppose him. For a whole day–no, to be precise, every single moment–if she didn’t bicker with him a few times, her mouth just wouldn’t feel right.

Kenny frowned deeply. “Stop messing around. These are wild animals. If they scratch you, you’ll need shots. Can you handle that?”

“They just came to me for food. They wouldn’t hurt me,” Zara retorted.

“They don’t know any better. How would they know what hurts people? Look at those claws. One accidental scratch and you’re done for.”

Kenny scowled. “Can’t you be a little more responsible–for yourself and for your baby?!”

Zara hadn’t expected such a small thing to escalate into a lecture about responsibility. Her temper flared up instantly.

“What nonsense! Kenny, explain yourself. What do you mean I’m not being responsible? How do you know I wasn’t watching carefully or trying to avoid them? Are you the only one with eyes?!”

Oriana and Micah had gone to the neighboring parrot area to feed the birds. They had just finished taking photos of the brightly feathered little parrots when they heard Zara and Kenny arguing.

They hurried back. Seeing Zara on the verge of tears, Oriana quickly stepped in to soothe her, patting her back as her chest heaved with emotion. “Zara, talk it out calmly. Don’t get so worked up.”

“How can I be calm when this guy came out of nowhere accusing me of being irresponsible?!”

Kenny was clearly about to fire back when Micah spoke up, “Excessive emotion isn’t good for a pregnant woman. Kenny, you should rein yourself in.”

Realizing he had been bickering with Zara, and arguing intensely at that, Kenny snapped out of it, his expression instantly filled with deep regret.

He shot Zara a dark look. “Fine, do whatever you want. I won’t interfere anymore!”

With that, he turned away with a stormy expression, as if to say, “Have it your way.”

Zara was so angry she almost laughed. Placing her hands on her hips, she tried to calm her rage. “Alright, you said it. Never interfere in my matter!”

Now thoroughly provoked, Kenny whipped his head back around, glaring at her with a fury that looked like he wanted to devour her whole.

“Fine!”
