Kenny gave up resisting. He looked up at the ceiling in silent despair. He was tired.
Noah, meanwhile, thought for a moment before speaking gently. “Zara, what kind of work are you interested in? How about I invest in a business for you? You can be the boss. A flower shop, a bookstore, a café–whatever you like, I’ll open it for you.”
Being a boss had to be better than being an employee. They could hire a professional manager to run the place, so Zara wouldn’t have to stress too much.
Niamh’s eyes lit up, and she took Zara’s hand eagerly. “Noah has a great idea. Think about what you’d enjoy, Zara. We’ll support you all the way.”
Cordell pulled out his phone and started typing. “I’ll have my special assistant draw up some startup proposals for you to look over.”
“No, please don’t!” Zara waved her hands frantically. “I… I’m not cut out for business. If I lose interest after three minutes and the whole thing collapses, I’d just be wasting everyone’s kindness.”
She had at least that much self–awareness.

One didn’t fear the trust fund kid who spent money; one feared the trust fund kid who wanted to prove themselves.
The Caldwell family had generations of talent. She didn’t want to become famous for being the one who ran a business into the ground. That would be humiliating.
Zara hesitated for a moment. Under the intense, expectant gaze of the Caldwell clan, a shy blush crept onto her face. “Um… I don’t have to do something related to my major or start a company. Actually… I know a little bit about jewelry design…”
Before the words were fully out of her mouth, Noah’s face lit up with delight. He waved his hand grandly. “Jewelry design? That’s perfect! The Caldwell Group has several jewelry brands. There’s Vividia for crystal and jade, Lumen Gold for handcrafted gold pieces, and Gemoria for diamonds and gemstones. Zara, pick whichever one you like. It’s yours.”
Zara nearly choked on air.
