Sloane had been visiting Luna’s place daily under the guise of concern, showering her with care and attention as if she truly cherished Luna as her daughter–in–law.
Luna wasn’t stupid. She could see something was off.
During one visit, she accidentally noticed two newly acquired amulets for safety in Sloane’s bag. They were small and childish–clearly meant for babies.
Over lunch, Sloane, as expected, gave one of the amulets to her.
Luna accepted it with a smile, then casually remarked, “Sloane, you come over here every day. Won’t your children blame me for stealing you away?”
Sloane waved her hand dismissively. “They should be so lucky. As long as they aren’t causing trouble, I’m happy. They probably love that I’m not nagging in their ears.”
“I remember your children aren’t that young anymore,” Luna asked nonchalantly. “Their careers are on track now. Aren’t they thinking about having kids soon?”
“Oh, please. Counting on them? I’d have better luck waiting for the baby in your belly to arrive,” Sloane laughed, brushing it off.
A flicker of cold understanding passed through Luna’s eyes.
The other amulet wasn’t for Sloane’s own children.
Luna knew Sloane well–she was sharp–tongued and shortsighted. She would never put this much thought or effort into someone outside her immediate interest.
So… that left only one possibility.
“Well, Sloane, you aren’t completely useless after all,” Luna thought.
Her gaze turned icy.
“Luna, eat up. The food is getting cold.”
“Okay. You eat too.”
The gentle and virtuous Luna continued her routine, having Ella deliver tonic soup to Grant every day.
But suddenly, the portions began to increase–subtly at first, then noticeably. What used to be a serving for one became enough for two. Jonathan, pregnant and sharing the office, reaped the benefits, her face growing rounder and rosier with all the nourishment.
Owen, secretly monitoring Grant’s office, messaged Luna after work. He reported how long Jonathan stayed in Grant’s office each day, how she arrived and left with him, and how she was glowing with health, visibly filling out.

Owen was indignant. “Luna, are we really just going to watch this happen and do nothing?”
Luna soothed him. “Owen, have you forgotten what I told you?”
A chilling light flickered in Luna’s dark eyes.
“Let them enjoy it a little longer. They betrayed me. Their retribution… is coming soon.”

The day after Noah announced he was giving Lumen Gold to Zara, a team of professional lawyers arrived at the door to finalize the paperwork.
It was written in black and white: Zara would hold the chairman’s shares by proxy. Once the child turned one month old, the shares of Lumen Gold would automatically transfer to the child’s name. No other member of the Caldwell family had the right to interfere with Zara’s decisions regarding the company.
On her first day as acting chairman, the CEO of Lumen Gold and other top executives came directly to the Caldwell estate to pay their respects to Zara and ask if she had any changes to the operational strategy.
Zara didn’t know the first thing about corporate strategy. She waved off the question immediately, then countered with one of her own. “Is your design department hiring?”
Philip Buckley, the CEO’s special assistant, froze for a second before recovering with a smooth smile. “Ms. Radcliffe, our design department recruits in spring and autumn. The spring quota is full, but if you have a talent you’d like to recommend, we can certainly make arrangements immediately. May I ask who has earned your favor?”
Zara cleared her throat, puffing out her chest. “Me.”
The CEO and his team were dumbfounded.
Though she was technically a “nepo hire” parachuting in from the top, Zara had spent the last two weeks cramming basic knowledge at home.
Her connections might be rock–solid, but she didn’t want to embarrass herself the moment she walked through the door. So, she chose the time–honored tradition of last–minute panic studying.
She also gave strict instructions to the higher–ups: Keep it a secret.
She was going there to kill time and cure her boredom. If the whole company knew who she was, everyone would just spend their days sucking up to her. How would that be any different from staying home?
The day before she started, Zara dragged Lily out shopping, buying seven distinct outfits so she wouldn’t repeat a look for a week.
She was starting to show a little, and tight clothes would give it away. But with a loose, mid–length women’s blazer over her outfit, no one could tell a thing.
Watching Zara bustle about with such enthusiasm, Kenny watched silently from the sidelines, scoffing internally. He figured it was just a whim—she’d play at working for a few days, hit a snag, and come running back home soon enough.
