My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 100

Chapter 100

Chloe’s POV

I was still contemplating the thought when dinner time came around. When Axel entered the archive room, the air immediately shifted.

My hands slowed as I rummaged through the papers but I did not turn around until he squatted behind me, resting his head on my shoulder. “Hi, Luna,” he whispered. “I have not seen you all day.”

His breath fanning my neck made my heart speed up. “I had lunch here. Are you done with work?”

“I had just one boring meeting left,” he said and moved to sit beside me. “Do you want us to eat dinner here? Of do you just have a thing for the smell of old papers?”

That made me crack a smile. “It is not exactly table manners to eat on the floor in the middle of a pile of papers. had lunch at the corner near the door.”

He nodded. “By lunch, you mean a few crackers, a kit-kat and some leftover juice from breakfast? That lunch?” My face blanked. How did he know that? The thought had just formed when I remembered that I had the continent’s biggest snitch just a few shelves away.

“Viktor!” I snapped. “What did I say about reporting me to Axel?”

Viktor did not even bother with a response and simply grunted. Axel chuckled. “Do not blame him. I asked about it and he cannot lie to his Alpha.”

“I am pretty sure that he was very eager to volunteer information,” I spat, my face scrunching. “Snitch.”

Viktor grunted again. The door cracked open again and Mara poked her head in. From the angle that Axel and I sat, Mara could not see us so Viktor was the first person that she saw.

“Oh, Goddess. Vik. Do you know how long I have been looking for you?” She grabbed his arm, pressing her body closer to his. “I made dinner for both of us and it’s getting cold.”

My lips parted and I blinked, trying to process what I was saying. Mara and Viktor?

A couple? No, that did not look right. It would be easier for me to believe if someone told me that they were siblings.

Axel chuckled low beside me and I turned to him with a raised brow. He nodded and mouthed, “They are lovers.”

I could have never seen that coming. Now that I knew about them, I was curious about a lot of other things.

Were they true mates? Was this a casual relationship or something they were planning towards marriage? Since when had this been going on right under my nose? How did the two of them even decide on each other?

Of all people in the pack and in the world, why each other?

I got to my feet to try to get a close look and without watching where I was going, accidentally stepped on Axel. He let out a small hiss of pain and lurched forward, causing me to lose my balance.

I stumbled and fell right on his body, my arm slamming hard into one of the shelves as I came crashing down. Axel caught me before I could land with a thud, using his back as a cushion.

With how hard his head slammed against the floor, he must be hurting but he did not say anything about it.

“Are you okay, Chloe?” he asked me, trying to check my leg.

ared down at him with a small frown, my heart behaving weird in my chest. This was hardly my fault. This was as a result of a very conventionally attractive man caring for me.

That was why my body was behaving the way it was.

But I could not help but question why he was doing it. It was not that the fall would have hurt me much and even if it did, I had my wolf’s accelerated healing to take care of me. –

I did not need his help.

There was a small squeak behind us and Axel’s and my head snapped to the sound. Mara turned right around and slammed her fist against Viktor’s chest. “I thought you were alone!”

A small smirk appeared on Viktor’s lips, uncharacteristic with the stone cold expression he had on all the time. You did not let me say anything before you started to talk. When was I going to tell you that Alpha and Luna were here?”

I climbed off Axel, my own cheeks burning but grateful to have Mara’s predicament as a distraction. “I did not know you two were in a relationship. I wish you would have told me.”

Mara’s hands covered her face. “W-We are just testing things out. That’s all,” she said, dropping to a squat.

Axel joined in on the fun as he sat up. “You two have been testing things out for a year? Be for real, Mara.”

A year. A whole year. Long before I even entered the pack. They certainly knew how to hide it well.

As Mara was still trying to recover her composure, she decided to spin it back on us. “What were you two even doing? I saw you on top of him.”

I was about to stutter through a reply when Axel pulled me into his side. “What is so wrong with her touching her fiance? Unlike the two of you that keep sneaking around, having trysts. Do you know the number of maids you have traumatized at night?”

Mara’s entire face flamed. “What maids?” She turned to Viktor. “Other people know?”

“Of course, other people know,” Viktor said, crossing his arms over his chest. “You are the Luna’s personal assistant. People will be curious about where you are going when they see you trying to sneak around at night.”

Mara stumbled and caught herself on the shelf. Her reaction made me confused.
