My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 99

Chapter 99

Chloe’s POV

When I told Axel that I would like the chance to think about it, I was really giving myself time to think of a reason to refuse.

In my opinion, it was unfavorable for the two of us for him to keep taking me out when we were going to go our separate ways in a few weeks. Before the end of the year, another woman was going to be hanging on his arm.

That would not look good one bit for the pack or his reputation.

“Focus,” I said, shaking my head as I scoured the shelves of the pack’s internal archives. My fingers caught on book that looked out of place and I pulled it out, opening it.

It was a new file that did not seem like it was supposed to be amongst these other ones that were collecting dust. I opened the file and started to read through the details.

My brows scrunched. This could not be right.

Since when have Everton Industries and Windsor Industries business rivals? I knew from my past life that they were very close partners. It was on Axel’s way to attend a business summit hosted by Windsor Industries that he got in the plane crash fire that left him comatose.

He remained in that state for just a few days and died the moment he crossed into the borders of Everdeen.

Now that there was evidence pointing to the fact that the two companies were once bitter rivals, what if there was some kind of bad blood that made the other party snap and decide to plot against Axel?

Things like this would not be a rare occurrence in our world. The ‘accident’ that everyone thought Axel’s death was might not have really been an accident at all.

A small swear left my lips as my heart twisted in my chest. The thought of Axel possibly still dying made it difficult for me to breathe. My fist tightened around the shelf I was holding so hard that the wood creaked.

I could not deny that Axel had been good to me. He had been very good to me.

Maybe a few months ago, I might not have cared if Axel lived or died but now it was a different situation. I went out of my way to save Sandra and she was a girl that I had only known for a few days.

What about the man that funded me, my whims and my lifestyle without asking any questions? The least I could do for him was prevent him from dying if I had the information that he was going to.

I needed to look into this Windsor Industries. All I knew was that they were owned by a neighboring pack. If they were a threat that needed to be eliminated, I would handle them like I handled the Crane family.

Proactively. Before they got the chance to cause any damage to myself or the people around me.

My fingers tightened around the file in my hand. “This will be my last gift to you, Axel,” I whispered. I stepped out of the shelves. “Viktor!”

My bodyguard stepped into the room, moving silently across the floors. “Yes, Luna.”

“Who is your master? Me or Axel?” Viktor looked up at me like I was asking a foolish question. I handed him the file. “I need you to help me search this archive for all details relating to this…and without saying it, you must understand that this news must not get to Axel or anyone else.”

There was a pause and then, Viktor nodded. “Yes, Luna.”

As for the things that could not be in this room, I needed someone else’s help but I just knew he was going to ask or something ridiculous. I was not blind enough not to realize that Liam had feelings for me, however playful he

But I was in a committed relationship and could not keep putting myself in situations like that with another man, regardless of our history. In fact, our history was likely to convict us of wrongdoing.

Also, as much as Liam might be a much safer place to be around right now, I did not like him in that way. I wanted my conscience clean and clear when I left Everdeen and if I did ever like anyone else in the future, it would be out of mutual attraction.

Not the need to survive.

It felt cruel to use Liam’s feelings for my benefit in that sense.

I should probably hold off on the call to him and find someone else who could do the investigation like him/It might take some time but someone would turn up eventually.

If Viktor and I found something concrete by ourselves, I was sure that Axel and his father would listen to us and do deeper research into the matter.

Something suddenly occurred to me. My stomach curled. What if Axel was already in partnership with Windsor by now?

The papers seemed to be dated a long time ago but were put in a fresh file like someone was just trying to toss them away. It was old news that Axel might not know or care about.
