My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 101

Chapter 101

Coloe’s POV

For all my experience, this was a matter that I did not know how to solve and offering sympathy was a shallow thing to do.

Mara was the closest thing to a friend that I had since I came to the pack. I did not want to just say something to fill the air. Maybe I might not be able to help her but I could find someone who could.

“Your father does not necessarily need you to marry an Alpha or a Beta, right?” I asked.

Her head tilted. “What? He does…what do you mean?”

“I mean, he just wants you to elevate the pack’s status,” I explained. “The person does not necessarily need to be some Alpha or Beta. Influence can mean different things. As long as it puts Banecroft in front of more important people, he won’t mind who it is.”

It felt like a cruel thing to say it outright that her father did not care about her marriage and her life as long as it brought the pack glory but we did not need to mince words.

Mara lowered to the ground beside me and crossed her legs. “So what are you saying? We need to elevate Viktor’s status?”

“Yes. He cannot remain a shadow guard if you want to marry him-”

“Absolutely not,” Axel and Viktor said in unison, glaring at me like I had committed a blunder.

I looked between the two of them. “What is it?”

Viktor’s expression was hard and resolute. “I was raised to be a sword for you, Luna. I will not take orders from anyone else.”

“Do I not have the right to dictate how to use my own sword?” I asked, getting to my feet, challenging him. “Or do you not love Mara enough? If you do not love Mara enough to give your life to have her, you might as well quit this before I end it myself.”

Viktor’s eyes fell to Mara and softened. She was already looking up at him with a dark expression like she was already expecting him to reject her.

He knelt in front of her, his callused hand cupping her cheek gently. “I love you,” he breathed. Her face fell as she prepared for the blow. “Luna, what do you want me to do? I cannot give Mara up.

Wow. Their love made even me sick with jealousy.

Where were men like Viktor when I was still interested in relationships? This kind of undying devotion in my past life might have made me more open to love in this life.

“For now, just remain with your regular duties. I would have to find a way to get your position changed soon enough.” My hand lowered and threaded through Mara’s hair. “You guys should start planning your wedding soon.”

Mara smirked. “You mean, your wedding. I heard Alpha Paul and Luna Diane this morning.” Mara pulled me into an easy hug. “I am so happy for you. You guys deserve this after all you have been through.”

I smiled tightly over her shoulder. In the room, she was the only person that did not understand the true nature of my relationship with Axel and I did not want to burst her bubble.

Or so I thought until she turned into my ear and whispered so low that the men would not hear us, “Hey, I know you might think that Axel does not like you but I have been around him long enough to know when he is emotionally invested in something.”

She leaned back and started chatting away with Viktor. As they walked further down the shelves, she turned and winked over her shoulder at me before nudging her head towards Axel who was sitting on the floor, looking at his phone.

I bit on my lower lip as I looked down at him. Would it be so bad?

I mean, he was very attractive, wealthy and let me do what I wanted. That was every woman’s dream so why did I still feel so hesitant, staying with him?

He had proved that he was completely different from my past life. Now, I do not even see how his temperament would have allowed him to remain around Hannah for so long and not go crazy.

I could give him an award for not snapping and divorcing her.

“When you are done staring, we should leave for dinner,” he said without looking up. My cheeks flushed as I tried to stomp past him.

But he hopped to his feet and caught up to me, wearing the silliest grin on his face. “Are you embarrassed? Why? I am yours, am I not?”

My eyes narrowed slightly. His lines were too smooth for him not to have practice.

“Shut up,” I could only say when I searched and did not find an appropriate comeback.

Axel intertwined our fingers, his expression turning more serious. “So…a very pretty lady did not give me a response to my request from earlier.”
