Chapter 104
Cloe’s POV
Hannah and I ran into each other outside the pack house when it was much later that night.
The warriors she had called together were still moving in her things.
Judging by how many boxes that she was carrying, she and Jax were in for a nice, long argument though I did suppose that in their case, it would end with sex.
Whenever Jax and I used to argue about anything, he would go out and cheat on me, almost as a punishment. I would lie in bed, writhing until morning, feeling the effect of what I had done.
After some time, I had learned to stop arguing back but the cheating never stopped. Not until I drank the poisoned wine with his pregnant mistress leaning over me.
“I am sure David must be very excited to become a grandfather at such a young age,” I started. “I could not imagine how he felt when you told him.”
He must have been over the moon to see his daughter secure position and power in the pack through such a decisive way.
Hannah’s guard vanished and she looked to the side, gnawing on her lower lip. My brow raised. “He does not know,” I said slowly, checking her face for confirmation.
She became prickly instantly. “I do not see how that is any of your business,” she said, her voice trembling.
This was one of the many times that I could not figure out what was going on in Hannah’s head. Did she not realize how much a pregnancy put her at disadvantage?
As much as she was now entitled to protection from the Alpha family, she was also pack property until she gave birth to the child and for, at least, a few years afterwards. If Jax soon proved to be the monster I knew, she could not pack up and leave.
However, I figured that she was not considering that detail because all she had seen of my marriage with Jax were the gifts and the non-stop compliments.
That was all I had let anyone see.
“What is your problem?” she suddenly asked me as I turned back into the house.
I paused and turned around. “You know what, Hannah? That should be my line. Don’t tell me that you actually got pregnant just to fight for power.”
She flinched subtly and immediately masked it but I caught it anyway. “You overestimate yourself. Do you think you are anything compared to me?”
I had the sinking feeling that she was plotting something. I just could not place my finger on what exactly it was.
“You should get some rest. Pregnancy demands a lot from a woman,” I said and turned to head into the pack house. Luna Diane was just coming down the stairs.
“Chloe,” she said, beckoning on me. “I was looking for you. Axel mentioned that you are going with him to the resort for the young Alphas meet. I thought to help you get some things you would need ready.”
Hannah stepped into the pack house, listening closely to our conversation while preparing not to.

Luna Diane noticed her and looked over my shoulder. “Hannah, you should get ready as well. Paul has ordered Jax
go and he will be taking you with him.”
I turned in time to see Hannah’s triumphant smile. So this was her plan.
If she could go to the meet as Jax’s pregnant mate, she would be placing herself in direct contest to me, who was still a fiance that had not married into the house.
As it were, if not for Axel’s fierce support, Hannah had more legitimate standing in the house than did.
Luna Diane noticed my gaze and rested her hand firmly on my shoulder. “It is a long trip so I think you should start getting ready on time.”
Hannah let out a high-pitched sigh, clutching her back. “Luna, I think my back is starting to hurt. Can I get help packing as well? I do not know how to handle these things-”
“I will send one of the maids to you,” Luna Diane said and turned up the stairs. “Chloe, come along. I have a catalog of clothing for you to pick from.”
The favoritism was blatant from both the Alpha and Luna that I started to feel a little horrible that I would be leaving them in a few weeks. Without much thought, I rushed forward and grabbed Luna Diane’s arm.
She turned to me with raised brows but did not push me off. I leaned my head on her shoulder as we walked up the stairs. “Is there a problem, Chloe?” she asked me.
“No,” I muttered and after a few seconds, added. “You smell like a mum.”
“I am a mum,” she said blankly.
“Well, you smell like a good mum,” I said, not even sure why I was still talking. I was half-expecting her to push me off of her and send me away but she did not.
Luna Diane lifted her other hand and patted my head. “I am a good mum…or so, I have been told.” She stopped walking and turned to face me. “Chloe, what you did was dangerous. It could have easily backfired on you.”
