Chapter 106
Chloe’s POV
Hannah’s voice echoed from the living room as I came down the stairs.
“You had better be careful with that. I am carrying the future heir of the pack. Nine of your lives would not be able. to pay if something happened to me.”
I stopped at the bottom and peeked into the living room. Suddenly, Hannah had decided that she was too big to eat in the dining room because she was pregnant.
The entire living room table was spread out with a multitude of dishes for her to taste-test and the cooks kept leaving to the kitchen to return with new ones.
“Luna,” one of the cooks said and the rest of them stopped moving, bowing slightly to me. I raised my hand for them to rise.
Before they could return to the kitchen, I called them back. “Hold on,” I said, walking to them so I could taste the meals. As I chewed, a small smile lifted to my face. “Delicious as always, Maria.”
She beamed, almost with tears in her eyes. She was still a very young woman, just twenty but she had been in the kitchen all her life, serving the pack as a cook as her family had done for six generations.
I would not have Hannah disrespect them like that.
I waved the rest of them. “My sister only finds one meal palatable, right? Move the rest to the dining room. After serving the Alpha table, give the rest to the warriors.”
My smile widened. “We need to celebrate my sister’s pregnancy. It is such great news for the pack. Hannah, you must be losing your appetite already. I shall arrange for a dietician to pay a visit.”
Hannah shot to her feet instantly, stomping towards me. “Who do you think you are to speak to me like that?” she hissed. “I am pregnant. Do you think you or any of the people here will be able to pay with your lives if I went to complain to Alpha Paul?”
Hannah did have a bit of authority in the pack now. Alpha Paul would not be able to seriously punish her at any point during this time that she was pregnant.
However, she was also not in his favor either. Neither was her husband in support of her and her pregnancy. She was fighting a very lonely battle.
She mistook my quietness for surrender and turned to the cooks. “If none of you find me what to eat in the next ten minutes, I am going straight to Alpha Paul’s office-”
“No one takes a step out of this room,” I snapped back, my eyes sharp as I glared at her. “Spicy food. Oily food. Coffee. You are endangering the heir of this pack.”
“And what do you know about having babies?” She leaned closer. “You barren woman.”
She said, referencing my past life.
The insult hurt, especially since I found out at the end why I was unable to have children. Without knowing anything, she just casually threw the insult in my face.
A small smirk slipped onto her face and she grabbed my shoulder, tight enough to cause pain.
“Just you wait. Sooner than later, Axel will toss you out of this pack. By then, I will have my mate and my child.

Let’s see where that smart mouth of yours will be able to get you.”
Someone rushed into the house. “Luna! Luna!”
Both our heads snapped to the messenger. He hunched over, trying to catch his breath as he pointed outside.
“Luna Diane?” I asked, putting aside my conversation with Hannah. “Luna! Someone is-”
“No, you, Luna Chloe. You have a horde of Alphas asking for you at the border. They are trying to force their way. in!” he wheezed out. “We are trying to keep them back but the situation is getting out of control.”
My breath caught in my throat, my hands trembling as I tried to think of what was going on. Trying to force their way in? Were we being attacked?
Why were they asking for me?
“Axel!” I yelled, turning back up the stairs but before I could go far, Hannah grabbed my hand and dragged me down. Because of my panic, I stumbled and twisted my ankle as I fell.
She stood over me. “You brought intruders to our pack and you are now trying to escape? Where do you think you are going?”
I really did not have the time to deal with her conspiracy theories.
I pressed tightly on my ankle to make sure the bone was not out of alignment. “If you are looking for somewhere to be useful, climb into your mate’s bed. Just get out of my way.”
