Chapter 107

aloe’s POV

Seeing Axel defending me made my entire body slack forward in relief. Before I could fall down, a warm pair of arms caught me. Mara.

“I’m so sorry,” she whispered, her eyes watering. “I kept Viktor. That was why he could not be here immediately. None of them should have gotten the chance to touch you.”

I shook my head, more rattled than anything. The injuries on my body were already healing quickly.

“How dare an ordinary guard lay his hand on me?” David wheezed. “I am your Beta.”

“You touched my mistress,” Viktor replied, his hand tightening around David’s neck. His wolf was evidently on the surface, its energy powerful and chaotic. “You are nobody.”

“Let him go, Viktor,” Alpha Paul said, stepping out of the house.

Viktor let out another breath before stepping back. David straightened instantly, coughing as he tried to catch his breath.

His eyes were red as he pointed to me. “I was disciplining this little brat. There are intruders at our doorstep, trying to force their way in asking for her. Who knows what she has done?”

My hands curled into fists. Alphas. The messengers had said it was more than one.

Why would they…oh. They were here for that.

David kept talking, unaware to the plan that was forming in my mind. “I refuse to be associated with a girl like her. From today onwards, I have only one daughter. Do not even think about coming home when-”

“Fine,” I said bluntly, getting to my feet with Mara’s help. “You want to disown me? Fine. But I want it in writing.”

Mum let out a ragged breath, the first sound that she had made the whole while that she was standing there. I could not even look at her anymore.

It was difficult to see her and not see a stranger. In my past life, we had remained cordial because we both kept our heads down and swallowed shit from me who took us for granted.

Now that I was refusing to live like her, she had picked her man over me. I could not blame her really. In my past life, I picked Jax over everyone, including myself.

Not anymore.

“Excuse me?” David raged, stumbling to his feet.

“I said, I want to be legally emancipated,” I declared louder, “I no longer live under your house, eat your food and use your income. Your surname and authority became dead to me a long time ago. Disown me!”

My tears started to flow without my realisation. This was two lives worth of pain crashing down in one moment.

I needed to be free of these people. My life will never be completely mine if I kept this useless family ties that had been imposed on me by my mother.

“What?!” I screamed. “Too much of a coward to do it? Your fragile masculinity taking a blow from not being wanted?!”

Mum rushed to my side and held my hands. “Chloe, what are you doing? David is your father-”

ossed her hands away, putting distance between us. “I do not have a father! Don’t you dare feed me that bullshit!”

Mum flinched and I scoffed. “You know it’s funny. I am your biological daughter and yet, every fucking time, I keep being walked over by that bastard and his slut of a daughter and you say nothing. Even wild animals treat their children better!”

It had turned into a spectacle and this was exactly what I wanted. I wanted the eyes of the entire pack, watching to judge them into a decision, to make them reveal their true heart desires.

They did not want to keep me in this family. They just did not want to be the ones to bring it up themselves. Now that I had brought it up, they had nothing to fear.

“Chloe!” Mum cried, tears running down her cheeks as well. “Your father takes care of you. Just be quiet and apologize. I am sure we can talk this out-”

“No, we cannot. Today, you did not check the facts. None of you checked the facts and he was ready to kill me.” My voice was firm. “I refuse to call a man who would not hesitate to kill me my father. I would rather be an orphan.”

“Fine,” David spat, marching into the pack house.

He returned a few minutes later with the documents. A single page printed fresh, the paper was still warm.

“This is your last chance to apologize-”

I snatched the paper out of his hand, bit my own thumb before pressing it on the paper. David’s jaw clenched before he did the same.

Mum stumbled, catching herself short before she fell. We all watched David take the document to Alpha Paul. “ Your approval, sir.”

Alpha Paul looked at me. I kept my head high, showing him that I was confident, proud even of my decision. He nodded once before pressing his own thumb on the paper.

It was finally done. The faucet of my tears dried up instantly.

Axel walked to me and handed me a handkerchief. I dabbed my eyes carefully, not to smudge my make-up. When I handed the handkerchief back to him, he had a warm smile on his face.

His fingers pinched my cheek. “With your skills, you should have been an actress,”

I rolled my eyes. “Let’s just go to the border. We have guests to welcome.”
