Chapter 110

Coloe’s POV

Shopping with Luna Diane was the opposite of what I expected. She was loud, chatty and moved through every room like it owed her something.

Viktor and an older man who suspiciously looked like Viktor’s father trudged after us, carrying our shopping bags. They had grown so much that I started to pity the bodyguards.

When I looked back for the umpteenth time, Luna Diane slapped my arm. “Effortless authority. It is their job to take care of you, not the other way around.”

“But…it’s just a bag,” I muttered. “And we can help.”

“And if we need more help carrying our shopping bags, I will get Axel and Jax down here. It is not like they have much to do anyway.”

Her words were sprinkled with something close to annoyance.

When we passed by a famous jewelry store, my mind instantly traveled down my memory lane. This was the door my engagement ring to Jax came from.

Eventually, he took my ring, swapped out the diamond for a fake one so he could give the real one to his mistress. All the while, he thought I would not notice.

I figured out that something was wrong almost immediately but remained quiet to keep the peace. While he was trying to hide it, his mistress was openly flaunting it in my face.

Then, she got fed up with being kept as the secret while I was treated as loved in the open and took my life. Sometimes, I wondered how the two of them lived with each other after I died. I hoped they were as happy as they

made me.

Luna Diane stopped walking for a moment before she lifted my hand. As she studied the ring on my finger, her tongue clicked. “That little bastard…give me a moment, Chloe.”

She stepped away, her finger flying across her phone. In the next second, it ran and she started spitting what sounded like insults but I could not be sure since it was in a foreign language,

Eventually, she spoke in English. “I did not raise an idiot like you,” she said and ended the call.

When she turned to face me, her smile was wide. “Let us continue, Chloe.”

After what seemed like forever, we finally stopped for a lunch break around four pm. All the while, I had continued to check the time because Alpha Paul had all but threatened me to make sure that Luna Diane got back home on time.

I had barely escaped scolding after last night’s all-night stunt, courtesy of Axel and this morning’s distraction.

“Do you not like the bread?” Luna Diane asked and then turned to her bodyguard. “Sergio, could you get us something else to eat then-”

“No,” I said, my hand reaching forward instinctively and closing over hers.

She looked down and I pulled away, my cheeks tinting in apology. “Um…the food is amazing. I was just lost in thought.”

All the while I had been planning to leave when my arrangement with Axel was up. I had the money, the

connections and the legal freedom from the vampires in my family to go.

ist did not know where to go and what to do. Should I start a new life as a human? Do I move to another country and settle down in a new wolf community?

What did I do with all the money? Even if I were a spendthrift, I could not finish the money I currently had in an entire decade and this was just the beginning for the progress of the formula.

“The mating ceremony?” Luna Diane asked, guessing what was bothering me. “Do not take this the wrong way, Chloe, but do you want to mate my son?”

Her question was so direct that it made me falter. “W-What?”

“I am a woman. A much older woman, so I see these things. You and Axel treat each other like…Coworkers. Yes, coworkers. Not mates.”

Her head tilted. “There is that emotions element that you two do not have…or are trying to pretend that you do not have. That is why my son’s recent behavior surprises me a lot.”

My entire body trembled as I tried to figure out if this was some kind of test. It had to be.

What kind of mother would know that I was planning to leave her son and be comfortable enough to go shopping with me, discussing such an important matter over lunch in a food court?

“But I want to ask you, Chloe. Is there anything that you think you could get outside that you cannot get at my son’s side?”
