Chapter 114
loe’s POV
Hannah kicked open the door and sauntered into the downstairs lounge.
Axel and I looked up at her as she dropped down to the couch and clicked her tongue. “This place is stuffy.” She waved the maid in. “Raise the curtains. I need the ventilation.”
We stayed silent as she lifted the curtains and let the harsh sunlight pour into the room. When the rays landed on my skin, I packed up my books and moved towards the shade.
Noticing the movement, Hannah stopped and leaned closer, peeking at the book spread on the table. When she saw that the pages were opened to the basics, a small chuckle slipped from her lips.
“You were always rather uncultured,” she remarked lightly, tilting her head. “Do you want me to help you?y
“No, thank you,” I said, brushing off the insult. Her tiny jabs meant nothing to me.
Seeing I was unreactive, Hannah sighed and leaned back on the couch, her hand flat against her belly. She spoke as though Axel was not right there in the room.
“The baby has just been craving all kinds of meals. He is growing very quickly.” She let out a small sigh. “When the heir of the pack is born, Alpha and Luna would be overjoyed.”
Axel’s pen froze slightly but he kept his cool so she pushed even further.
“I mean, the Everdeen family has always valued the continuity of the Alpha line.” She smiled at me.
“No offense, Chloe, of course. Being able to bear a child is more fate than anything. Maybe if you got your head out of the books and focused on what was truly important, the Moon Goddess might have mercy on you-
Axel’s pen snapping echoed through the room. At the same time, I got the sinking feeling that Hannah was about to do something.
My hand reached for him. “Axel, wait-”
But it was already too late. Hannah had dropped to the ground, screaming off the top of her lungs like she was being chased by a serial killer.
It did not take long for the pack members outside to gather and then, for Jax to appear.
I shot to my feet. “Damn it, Hannah. No one touched you!”
My words only fueled her desire to drag this into a huge matter. “Don’t touch me! I’m sorry! I did not mean that! Please, don’t hurt me and the baby!”
Jax rushed to Hannah’s side and scooped her up into his arms. He set her down on the couch and before I could breathe, he landed a hard slap on my cheek.
I reared back, eyes wide, still trying to process what had just happened. Did he just put his hands on me?
My wolf snapped from where she was hidden, clawing her way to the surface. Did this woman-crazy, halfwit just put his hands on me?
A blur passed by the corner of my eyes and in the next moment, Axel had Jax pinned up against the wall. His claws were out, his entire body bristling with anger.

“How dare you touch her?” he growled low. “I will kill you and throw your remains into a mass grave.
ould not feel any form of relief at his defending me because of that smile on Hannah’s face. We were being played by her.
She moved forward and threw herself at Axel’s feet, begging him through tears to leave Jax alone. “She did not touch me. I was only seeing things. Please, don’t punish him! Do not leave my child without a father!”
The words had barely left her mouth when Alpha Paul appeared, David trailing behind him. Everyone held the breaths as they surveyed the scene, coming to their conclusions.
I let my head fall back, my fists tight. This did not look good for us.
Even if Hannah had been hysterical, she could chalk it up to her being pregnant with her hormones everywhere and haywire.
But it was undeniable that Axel had Jax pressed against the wall, hurling death threats at him.
I walked forward and tapped Axel’s arm once and he let Jax go before turning to me and touching my cheek. I locked my wolf in the back of my mind so the bruises would not fade.
Maybe the marks of Jax’s fingers on my face might give us a bit of a case.
“The four of you in my office,” Alpha Paul said. Axel was about to reply but I tapped his hand again.
