loe’s POV

David rushed to his daughter and lifted her to her feet, sending me a sharp glare.

“Chloe, do you have any idea what your stupidity could cause? Hannah is carrying a grandchild of the Alpha family and you are trying to mess with her.”

My brow raised at his scolding. As much as I wanted to retort with something sharp, this was not the time. I bowed my head like I was truly reflecting on my actions.

A triumphant look appeared in David’s eyes and he was emboldened to turn to Axel to scold him, albeit a bit calmer than the way he spoke to me.

“Alpha Axel, I know you feel your position is threatened,” David said gently, condescendingly if you listened close enough. “But this was not the way to go about this. She is a pregnant woman. How do you think that makes you look?”

My hand lifted gently to my cheek. “S-So Jax slapping me was right—”

“He was defending his pregnant mate from a threat,” David said sharply, annoyed that I would bring up a slap. ” You should be lucky that it simply ended at a slap. Imagine what would have happened if his wolf lost it—”

“And clawed me?” I said and unzipped my jacket, lowering it down my shoulders. “Like this one? I remember you leaving the claw marks on me when I was fourteen.”

I lifted my shirt to show the claw marks etched as a scar into my belly. The entire room flinched as they saw it.

“Back then, you were defending Hannah because she wanted to turn my room into her closet. I slept in the storage for a whole month while I was injured.” I smiled sadly. “I guess this is one of those situations, right?”

I let a tear slide down my face. “Maybe if I was able to heal like any proper wolf, it would not matter if I was beaten up since I would heal, right?”

David let go of Hannah and took a step back, his eyes wide. “What the hell are you talking about? I did not touch you.”

Alpha Paul must have known now that I was trying to garner sympathy but he was too interested in the story to show it now.

“And how did your daughter get clawed that badly while under your roof? To the best of my knowledge, she was barely allowed to leave home to have encountered rogues outside,”

David’s mouth opened and then shut. My eyes remained fixed on his, looking for what he would say to buy himself out. Suddenly, his eyes lit up and before he could speak, I burst into tears, falling against Axel.

“Mum was not at home that day. She had gone out for a personal day and when she got back, I was already in the storage closet,” I wailed, my hands clutching Axel’s shirt.

“She is always so busy with being the Beta female and helping out with work. How would she notice my wounds? I …I was not even allowed to go to the pack doctor-”

“Shut up!” David snarled and I smirked slightly when I looked up at him before continuing my sniffling.

For the longest time, I had really not thought of getting any kind of revenge against David. My mother was still married to me and he was my legal guardian so whatever I did would come back to bite me in the ass.

I kept my gaze firm while my entire body trembled.

Strong but afraid. Now, to Axel and Alpha Paul, it would no longer look like I was pretending.

It would seem like I was letting my real personality through by glaring at David but my body still remembered his hands on me, scarring me.

Alpha Paul’s hands slammed down on the table and he got to his feet. “David, would you care to explain what it is I am hearing?”

David’s lips parted in shock, his chest heaving and then he turned back to me. “You little bitch-”

“Touch me and see if Axel will spare you!” I screamed and immediately moved behind Axel.

Axel stepped forward and shielded me properly with his body. “Beta David, stand down. I say this out of respect for the years you have spent in service. Do not make me do something we will both regret.”

“She is manipulating you. Can’t you see?” David cried, astounded that he was really losing the battle.

Hannah jumped in to help her father. She folded in half and let out a soft cry, clutching her belly. “Dad. I think something is wrong. I…it hurts.”

She let out another small scream and Jax rushed to her side. “Must you be so insensitive? Is this really the time to be digging up the past?!”
