Chapter 116
Cloe’s POV
The door of my bedroom opened and Axel stood in the doorway, watching me pack my things.
I ignored him, putting my clothes into my suitcase. I did not plan to take any more than a few necessities. I had the money to afford a new lifestyle anywhere in the country.
When I was about to clear the make-up table, Axel’s hands closed over mine. “Are you serious?” he whispered
I mean, I was going to leave regardless. David and Hannah just gave the opportunity to leave a little earlier than
normal.
Even if it was difficult to get used to society because I was a minor, I could always move to Moonflame in the worst case scenario and keep my head down until I turned eighteen and had all legal rights to stand on my own two feet.
“Axel, let go of me. I want to catch the next train to the city,” I said calmly, trying to push him off but his hand remained firmly clamped around mine.
“When you started planning this, did you ask for my permission?” He whirled me around to face him and my lips started to tremble when I caught the look on his face.
Why was he looking at me like that? What did he want from me?
“Axel, what are you…”
“You are not going anywhere, Chloe,” he said matter of factly and kicked my suitcase so that it pushed to the side and hit the wall.
A sickening crack echoed through the air as the metal in the suitcase splintered.
Irritation welled up inside me. “Axel, what the hell? Where am I going to get a new one?”
“With my card,” he gritted out. “I will buy you all the suitcases you want. Stay.”
His gaze burned into me, making me gulp. I turned to my left, breaking our eye contact. “You know that it is best this way. Your reputation does not have to be tarnished when you go to request that I be allowed to leave the pack.”
This way, everyone would blame me for being problematic, for causing scandals in the Alpha family because I was too emotional. Alpha Paul would quickly find another woman for Axel and that would be that.
Everything would easily fall into place and everyone would be happy.
So why was Axel looking at me like that? Like I was ripping his heart out of his chest.
His hand lifted and he cupped my cheek. “Chloe,” he breathed out. “I do not want you to leave.”
The confession fell like lead onto my chest. What the hell did he mean by that?
I tried to back up but his grip on my waist kept me pressed up against him. “You…what are you doing?” I whispered and he smiled.
“Come on, Chloe. You are a smart lady. Use that brain of yours.”
“Don’t,” I said firmly, interrupting whatever it was that was happening or more accurately, whatever it was that he was trying to make happen.

I would not be giving space to whatever nonsense was going on in his head.
if the Moon Goddess was helping me, there was a knock on the door. I pushed him away and rushed to open it with a forced smile on my face.
My joy fizzled out the moment I set eyes on my mother. I would have rather dealt with Axel for longer than spend a single second with this woman.
And after turning him down so harshly, it felt hypocritical to ask him for help in the same breath. I could be brazen but even that had limits.
Before I could say anything, Axel left the room by himself, using the connecting doors between our rooms.
Before he disappeared, he gave my mother a withering look, warning her not to try anything funny because he was on the other side of the door.
Despite all of that, he was still protecting me.
When he closed the door behind him, the room fell into a small awkward silence. I walked back to my wall where Axel had kicked my suitcase to survey the damage.
It was not bad at all. I could manage it until I left and got myself a new one.
“How have you been?” Mum asked, her voice soft. I turned around in time to see her eyes dart nervously to the suitcase on the floor filled with my belongings.
“Fine,” I answered curtly and started to move the things that had scattered back into the box. Anything that seemed unnecessary went into a pile near the vanity table that I would ask the maids to dispose of later.
