Chapter 118
Cloe’s POV
Mum shot to her feet, the mask now completely off to reveal that ugly desperation that she had walked into this
room with.
Her hand gripped mine. “Chloe, you can get your father out of this. Alpha and Luna listen to you. Heck, even Akel! If you tell him to, he can speak to his father about dropping the case.”
A low scoff slipped from my lips. “And why on Earth would you think I would do that?” I raised my shirt to show her the scar.
Ugly. Etched into my skin. Stretching all the way from my navel to somewhere a patch of skin above my ribs.
When she saw the scar, she sucked in a sharp breath, taking a step backwards. “Do not be ridiculous. Where did you get that on your body? That was not there when you left home.”
“And how would you know?” I asked her with a small smile. “Remind me again. How old was I when David decided that I was too old to be needing your help to get ready? You weren’t even married to him yet.”
Mum’s lips trembled. “He was thinking of…you were old enough—”
“And Hannah?”
She let out a shaky breath as she was confronted with her own bias and foolishness. It was years too late but at least, her eyes were open now.
Not that it mattered to me anyway. She could go hug an electric pole for all I cared. If I died today, I would not matter to her.
“Use the door when you are ready to leave,” I said.
Before I could take two steps, she held me by my sleeve. “I…I know this is the worst time to say this,” she whispered hoarsely.
The fact that she was trembling made me turn around. What did she want that was so difficult to articulate?
“H-Hannah is pregnant,” she started. “I am her mum. I am supposed to support her in the way I can. Just consider it a loan. You have so much money anyway so a few thousand will mean nothing to you-”
“You want me to pay for your gifts for Hannah,” I said, my voice blank.
I could not even bring myself to be upset anymore. What more line could she cross than what she had already done?
“Get out,” I said, trembling with every breath I dragged through my throat. My eyes were closed so I did not have to look at her, to look at the disappointment she had become
Suddenly, there was a thud. I did not need to look to know that she had dropped to her knees. Dropping to her knees to beg me for money so she could buy her step-daughter a gift.
Anyone who saw the scene would wonder who her biological daughter was.
“Get out,” I said louder. “Do not make me call my bodyguard to take care of you.”
Hearing my words, she got to her feet again. Her hand raised and before she could say anything, I slapped her so hard she knocked to the ground.

“Get out!” I snarled, my wolf evidently in my voice. “Now!”
suddenly, fear gripped her and she muttered a name that I had never heard in my life. “Alarick…”
I filed the information for later and picked her up, dragged her across the ground by her hair and tossed her on the ground near the door.
She climbed to her feet after a few seconds and opened the door. Unsurprisingly, Hannah stood on the other side. When she saw my mother come out, her eyes lit up.
“Did you get the money…” Hannah trailed off when she saw that I was right behind my mother.
I kept her gaze as I kicked Sophia’s back, pushing her right towards Hannah. Hannah did the sane thing and dodged, screaming that she did not want her filthy hands staining her clothes.
Mum fell hard against the floor, knocking her nose into the ground. A broken whimper slipped from her lips but I could only watch in coldness.
Perhaps one day, she will learn her lessons and build a life for herself away from servitude. Let these bruises and these harsh treatments be my way of opening her eyes.
“The next time that you send your mother to my door to try to emotionally blackmail me for money, I will drag your ass and hers to the Council,” I spat, glaring at Hannah. “Try me and see.”
I slammed the door so hard that it rattled. The moment I could no longer sense their presence against the walls, my knees buckled and I fell against the door, sliding down to the floor.
No matter how tough I was, Sophia Waterson was my mother. I had sworn so many times in my heart that when I had the means, I would take care of her and give her the life she never got to live after my father abandoned us.
