Chapter 120
loe’s POV
“My answer is no,” Alpha Paul said.
“I have not even said anything yet,” I said calmly, my hands pressed flat against my thigh.
He looked up at me with a raised brow. “You want to ask me to give you the order to leave the pack?
I opened my mouth to explain my reasoning for the umpteenth time and before I could get anything out, he said, ” No. Chloe, you have a program next week. You should be getting ready.”
My jaw tightened. “You cannot force me to marry your son against my will.”
“We will not know until we try, now, will we?”
My mood plummeted so fast that I could not help the next words that slipped from my lips. “And what the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“He means that since you decided to be emancipated, all orphans are now under the custody of the pack,” Axel said, entering the office. “The Alpha has taken the role of your legal parents. Congratulations.”
My lips parted. How come I did not know about a rule like that?
I looked between their faces to try and guess if there was any foul play but neither of them gave anything away. As I was standing there, they started talking about some business merger like they had decided I was simply throwing a tantrum.
“I want to leave,” I said firmly, interrupting their conversation. “You both cannot keep me here. I will petition the Elder Council.”
Alpha Paul leaned back in his chair when I said that. Though a hint of an amused smile played on his lips, his gaze was sharp enough to pierce glass.
“You know, the way you are so desperate to leave. It makes me wonder if you had this planned from the start. Be the future Luna long enough to get what you want and discard the title once it is no longer useful.”
My grip tightened around the hem of my sweater. When did I start getting emotional and sloppy around these people?
Alpha Paul had been guessing my motives for months and in just a few conversations, my desperation had leaked into my voice, allowing him to piece together what Axel and I had not told him about our relationship.
“I would just rather not be harassed anymore,” I said, my voice blank. “As long as I am in this pack, David, Sophia and Hannah will not leave me alone. I am done being their doormat.”
His head tilted. “So you have been planning this for months. Maybe that was why you agreed to my son’s proposal in the first place. You needed a temporary out that would protect you long enough for you to get a permanent out.”
He had started talking and he was now on a roll, making the connections in his head. All the things I had done and said in the past few months.
The office seemed to close around me. I forced myself to breathe as I thought of what exactly would happen to me now that Alpha Paul knows what I did…no.
He does not know anything yet. At least not concretely. All of this is alleged, all his assumptions. He cannot punish me without cold evidence.

I raised my head and looked him straight in the eyes. Unexpectedly, his lips tugged upwards in a small smirk.” Strategist,” he muttered and then looked back down at his paperwork. “Get out, Waterson. Do not make me lose my patience.’
My mouth fell open at the casual dismissal like I was nothing more than a thorn in his side. My words to retort had just formed in my head again when Axel held my hand, lifting me over his shoulder and hauling me out of the office like cargo.
He carried me straight to the dining room, ignoring me as I pounded his back. “What the heck is wrong with you?
Axel carried me to the dining room where lunch was currently ongoing. So I had to endure the humiliation of being carried in like a petulant child.
He set me down on the table and trapped me between both of his muscular arms. “You have not eaten since lunch/ yesterday and you are not getting up until you get enough food inside you to feed a pregnant woman.”
At that moment, Hannah walked into the room and her face burned, mortified by the comparison. Axel did not look apologetic in the least, starting to pile food on my plate.
“Also, I picked out a few more dresses for you. The tailors will be coming today to take your measurements so they can adjust accordingly,” Axel said.
My frown deepened but I did not say anything.
Jax entered the room behind Hannah and heard the conversation. As if he knew what was coming, he turned out of the room about to find a hole to hide in but Hannah had already latched on to his sleeve.
“Jax, I need some dresses too. I have put on a little weight since the baby came so-”
