My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 122

Chapter 122

Caloe’s POV

Hannah let out a small shriek before closing her hands over her ears. “What the hell?! No!”

I pouted, turning my face back to Axel. “I guess it’s alright. She does not have to give them to me if she does not. want to. You know what? Just drop the matter. Hannah never liked me anyway-”

“No,” Axel said, glaring at Hannah over my head.

A thought crossed my mind. He was being oddly very cooperative about this. By now, I would have expected him to have gotten fed up and told me to drop it since I was being childish.

Since he decided to play along, I had no reason to hesitate with the pitiful girl act.

“Hannah, all she is asking for is a pair of earrings while she has to deal with an injury,” Axel snapped. “Be grateful it is just jewelry. If I had my way, I would punish your foolishness out of you.”

Before Hannah could say anything more, Jax grabbed her wrist tightly and pulled her hand down. As he reached towards her ears, she tried to fight him but he forced her to remain still.

“Hannah, they are just earrings. I can get you a new pair…also, those dresses you want. I can get you some.” His voice was gentle as he tried to paint himself as reasonable when he was really telling her to give in to us. Her eyes watered, whether out of her just being a brat or pregnancy hormones. “But…I love these earrings-” “They are just earrings,” he repeated, his voice a little sharper to be a gentle scolding.

They went back and forth for a few seconds and then, she agreed reluctantly, crying as he removed the earrings from her ear and handed them to me.

I let out a small snort as I snatched them from his hands and raised them up to the light. “Hmm…they are pretty. They might not go with my clothes anyway. I will just gift them later.”

Hannah’s lips parted. Jax pulled her out of the dining room before another round of arguments could start.

Both our eyes met and mine narrowed. This was only the beginning.

Since I was leaving already, I could now do whatever I want. Hannah thought she was the only one who could be manipulative.

After being around a bitch like her for years, I had picked up a few things.

Axel finished eating first and waited until I was done. The moment I finished, he dragged me to his office and planted me on the couch before going around the desk to continue his work.

“What is it?” I asked him after a minute of silence.

Without looking up, he pointed to the stack of books beside me. “Your etiquette. You need to study. Continue.”

I let out an annoyed sigh and opened the book. About two hours into my reading, I started to get the uncomfortable feeling that someone was watching me.

When I looked up, I met Axel’s eyes. They were dark and annoyed like I had done something to him. “What do you want for your eighteenth birthday?” he asked suddenly.

I was about to give him a response but he cut in. “Do not say money or gold. I am talking about a real gift.”

mouth fell shut. Wasn’t money a real gift? Money was the best gift I could receive right now.

Cash in hand or in the bank was more reassuring than any man who would promise the world and deliver on nothing.

I simply shrugged. “It does not matter anyway. The moment that day comes, I will be leaving the pack.” There was a crack. My eyes fell to the table and saw a single crack line stretching the entire length of the table.

My mind flashed back to the words he had told me a few nights before. He did not want me to leave.

I really did not want to think about the possibility that he might have some infatuation with me that he was convincing himself would be enough to build a life with me.

The way he felt was simply as a result of proximity. Once I disappeared from his life and he found another woman to fill in the gap, the feelings would seamlessly transfer to her.

That was how fickle men were.

There was a knock on the door and Tony entered the room. When he saw me, his eyes lit up. “Chloe, hi! I have not seen you in a while. How have you been?”

I smiled warmly at him. “Great. How is your mate doing?”

We exchanged small talk while I pointedly tried to ignore Axel glaring at me. It did not take Tony long to notice. “Did you piss him off?” he asked me and I rolled my eyes.
