My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 131

Chapter 131

Chloe’s POV

True to his word, Axel stumbled into the house at sunrise, covered in blood.

I shot to my feet and ran to him, clutching his arms and scanning his entire body for injuries. “Are you alright? Did anyone claw you? You need to see a doctor, right?”

“You get the gentle check-in and I get some bite-sized hyena kicking my butt?” Darius wheezed, clutching his side as he limped into the house.

The said bite-sized hyena, Riven, kicked his calf and he stumbled forward.

“You little bastard. You think you are some kind of hero, right? Jumping in front of your dad to take a bullet. I should kill you before you kill yourself.”

The two of them instantly entered another round of arguments. I turned back to Axel, helping him to one of the-

couches.

True to his good manners, he decided to lie on the floor rather than stain the couch. A small smile slipped onto his face. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because you are an idiot,” I whispered, trying to wipe the blood off his face with a napkin. “Don’t you know animals are attracted by the scent of blood? You could have taken a soak in a nearby river or something.”

“Animals also drink from that river,” he argued and my eyes narrowed. He lay still. “Sorry. Next time, I will clean myself up.”

“Are you hungry?” I asked him. “I made breakfast.”

Axel nodded and let out a small sigh as he tried to breathe deeply. I helped him sit up and rest against me. After some time, his breathing regularized.

“What was that?” I asked him.

He waved his hand over his head. “Just some poison that they spread through the air. It’s fine.”

“That was a joke,” I said calmly.

“No, it wasn’t,” Darius said. “Our hospital does not have an antidote to it. They do not even know what kind of poison it is so we have to figure ourselves out until they find a cure,”

My hands slowly started to tremble.

Axel was an Alpha. Ordinary poison could not harm him, right? He was still smiling which meant that he was fine …right?

“Let’s get you upstairs,” I whispered and helped Axel up. He was too heavy so I stumbled but before we could both fall, Jax came up on Axel’s other side and lifted him.

His hand touched mine behind his brother and I flinched away. Axel noticed the reaction and clearly filed it away for later.

“Thanks,” I muttered and walked into the kitchen to get Axel the breakfast that I had made.

I knew the moment Hannah entered behind me and also felt the wind whishing towards me as her claws soared through the air.

I caught her wrist with ease and turned around, looking at her with a raised brow. The action only made her angrier. “You slut,” she hissed.

“Don’t you think you should take it a little easy now that you are pregnant?” I said calmly.

“You think I do not see the way you are looking at Jax?” she spat, going straight to the point. “Axel is not enough for you and you want to latch onto my mate?!”

I let out a small scoff, scanning her from top to bottom. “You and Jax think awfully highly of yourselves. What do you think I would want from Jax that I do not get from Axel? Love? Attention?”

I stepped closer to her. “Hannah, do you mean to tell me that you do not see the way that your sleazeball of a mate keeps looking at me?”

Hannah’s hard expression faltered for a moment. “You-”

“Keep your mate on a leash,” I spat. “I do not want to have to deal with him myself.”

I pushed past her and went up the stairs to Axel’s bedroom. The door was slightly ajar so I simply pushed it open and a small gasp slipped from my lips.

Instantly, I turned around, my grip tight around the breakfast tray. “You should close your doors when you are undressing.”

Somehow, I found a way to sound calm while I was actively trying to banish the image of his body from my head.

That was when I heard his footsteps slide closer to the door. Before I could react, he pulled me in and slammed the door.

I kept my eyes shut, my entire body trembling. He was just a few inches away, so close that I could feel his breath on mine.

“I am not going to eat you,” he whispered. His thumb brushed my lower lip and my eyes opened.

My gaze met his first and then, fell to his lips before moving back to his eyes. He caught the action and smirked widely, stepping even closer as if to suffocate me.

I raised the tray so it was between our chests, if only to act as a small barrier. “I brought you breakfast,” I said, trying to kill the mood.
