Chapter 141
Chloe’s POV
Axel returned a few minutes later with some cakes and a soda.
“Chloe, love, can I know now what you plan on doing to the Regali family?” he asked in a hushed tone. “I just saw. Donatello leave here.”
I chose to satisfy his curiosity. “He came to pitch a business idea to me…he actually did not get to pitch it but I knew that he was planning to.”
Axel’s brow raised. “What does that have to do with the deadly look you have been giving him all morning?”
My lips pursed. It was not like I could tell Axel that I knew the future.
“A bad feeling,” I said vaguely. Axel sighed in exhaustion but he did not push. “Do not worry about it. It really is just a bad feeling. He feels scummy, like someone I should not do business with.”
“Yet you want to send him your sister’s way?”
I paused, wondering how he knew that. Axel held my arm and we moved behind a nearby row of trees.
Hannah and Donatello stood to the distance talking. From Hannah’s body language, I could tell that she was subtly flirting with him.
Sera did not look to be anywhere in sight, though the two of them had just left me together. Did Donatello send her away?
My stomach churned when I thought of whether Donatello would have other intentions with Hannah.
I did not care much about what Hannah did with her body but right now was not the time for her to be having a scandal. She was pregnant and now a representative of Everdeen.
Any foolish thing she did would reflect poorly on our entire pack.
That said….
“Do you want me to do something about it?” Axel asked me.
I stared at them for a moment longer as they laughed, moving closer to each other. “Let us just observe for now.”
After all, this was the pack of the Alpha King and they were both here with their mates. They would use their
common sense.
“We might just be overthinking it,” I said to Axel, steering him back to the guest house.
Lunch time came around and our two packs reconvened in the dining room, except that Hannah was still missing.
Darius, ever the blunt one, looked straight at Jax. “Where is your mate? We assumed you would be able to keep a leash on her so she would not go jumping other men.”
Sandra snickered under her breath and disguised her laugh with a cough. “Sorry. The weather… I think I saw Hannah in the orchid on my way back. She seemed to be heading here so I did not bother to call her.”
The orchid.
I glanced at Axel. He was already looking at me.

My jaw tightened. She was supposed to offer him a business deal, not open her legs for him. Could Hannah stop to
hink sometimes about the implications of her actions?
Jax looked like he wanted to hit his head against a wall. Just then, Hannah’s figure appeared in the distance.
He let out a strangled sound before stomping to her, his entire body bristling with anger. The two of them had a hushed argument and somewhere in the middle, Hannah started to cry, her palm placed against her belly.
Whatever anger Jax held against her vanished and he pulled her into his embrace to comfort her.
“Wow,” Riven muttered. “Manipulative little…”
“How far along is she?” Sandra asked. “None of us can sense the baby yet, right? So maybe just a few weeks, not up to a month.”
My lips tugged down in a small frown.
None of us had actually ever seen a hospital report or an ultrasound. Hannah was the one who told us she was pregnant and we simply took her word for it.
Somehow, it had not occurred to me that she could be lying, just to find a new way to elevate her status and curry favor. As shown, it also worked as an excellent manipulator of Jax’s judgment.
Suddenly, Axel turned me to face him and kissed me. The tension in my body immediately eased as I melted into him, letting him hold me up.
After what seemed like forever, he pulled away and pressed another kiss to my cheek. “Stop worrying about other people’s relationships. You have us to focus on.”
I opened my mouth to argue and then realized he was right.
Since I had agreed to be his real partner, I had to focus on our relationship and make it work. Other things, including my slowly budding revenge plans, could come second for now.
“You guys are adorable,” Riven said, leaning into Darius’ side.
I looked up at Darius’ face and he clicked his tongue. “I still think you are a piece of shit,” he said to Axel. “If Chloe is willing to settle, I have nothing more to say.”
Riven slapped his arm. “You are such a jerk! Why on Earth would you say that to him?”
The two of them started bickering but before long, we realized that it was a losing battle for Darius. Riven’s tongue was a lot sharper than his was.
“Jerk!” she spat as she got the final word in. Darius looked irritated to the point of death but he did not say anything else.
“I was thinking we go on a date this evening,” Axel said, holding me closer.
I noticed that he would never let go of me whenever we were alone. His love language must be mainly physical touch.
Not that I minded. His presence was pure warmth.
