My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143

Chloe’s POV

A second passed by. Two. And then I burst into laughter.

“Oh goddess,” I said, wiping the tears that had slid down my face. “Is that why everyone was acting so weird? They do not want to be associated with a social climber?”

Lillian frowned, clearly not expecting my reaction. “Who wants to be associated with someone as filthy as you? Do you even understand the first thing about being a Luna-”

“And you claim to?” I retorted, my smile vanished from my face. “A Luna who does not understand the etiquette she ought to reserve for packs more superior to hers.”

Lillian threw her head back and let out a derisive laugh.

“Come on, Chloe. You have to realize when people are sparing you some dignity. Last I heard, you were still seventeen. Can’t you see you are being kept as a placeholder until a real Luna comes along?”

I fell silent, tilting my head as I stared blankly at her.

Lillian saw this to mean that she had stunned me silent. Her cruel smirk widened. “Or you do not even realize that. I mean, you’re just a little girl. Your mother even abandoned you so you’re practically an orphan now-”

I took a step forward, letting my wolf rise to the surface.

I was not sure if it was because I was back in my home pack but since we arrived here, her energy had been chaotic.

The only reason I had been calm all this while was that Axel’s wolf was helping me to suppress

her energy.

Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on the side you chose to compare things from, he was not here to do that

now.

“I was unaware when Silverrun made it into the ranks of Everdeen,” I said, releasing my wolf’s energy in Lillian’s direction.

Lillian stumbled backwards, her eyes widening. Before she could recover, I closed the distance between our bodies in a flash and grabbed her neck, squeezing tightly.

“All it would take is a letter back home and Alpha Basil Silverrun would have a lot of explaining to do to my Alpha,” I said and my smirk widened.

“Or perhaps, would Luna Silvia of Moonflame be a better person to write to? She dotes on me quite a bit.”

Lillian could barely hear me over her struggle to breathe. “P-Please…I b-beg you…d-don’t kill m-me…”

Seeing her gasp so pathetically in front of me made me tighten my grip.

How dare she approach me and try to bully me when she was only this strong? Even Hannah would have put up a better fight.

“That is enough,” a voice said behind us.

I straightened without letting go of Lillian’s neck to see who had spoken. The moment the other two girls were literally being forced to bow because of her energy, I realized who she was.

“Your Highness,” I greeted. “It is my pleasure to meet you.”

Her head tilted slightly and then, she pushed her energy out even more. I raised a brow, wondering if her parents

ad-not mentioned who I was to her.

“Which family are you from?” she asked me, her tone sharp.

Since I knew who she was, I ought to bow. That was what she must have been thinking. Though it would really have been easier to bow and let her go her own way, I felt the need to be stubborn.

“Chloe Waterson,” I replied. “Fiancee of the future Alpha of Everdeen.”

When she heard my name, she sucked in a sharp breath. “I see,” she muttered, her tone more somber.

Her eyes moved down to my fingers still wrapped around Lillian’s throat. “If you would let her go…you do not want a murder on your hands, do you?”

Lillian was now blue in the face. I clicked my tongue and tossed her back so she landed on the floor a few feet away, coughing as she tried to breathe.

“I will pay for the damage,” I said and handed the attendant Axel’s card. Seeing the official mark of Everdeen, she bowed even lower before disappearing.

The princess waved her bodyguard away. “Wait for me near the entrance.”

He tried to protest but she halted him with a hand raised in the air. “I would like a private conversation with Miss Everton…don’t you agree, Chloe?”

I nearly rolled my eyes as I waved Viktor away from where he was hiding, watching me. Almost immediately, the store emptied and the princess and I were alone.

“I want to start by thanking you for saving me,” she said, walking closer. “That pill worked wonders. Even when I was awake, I was back to full health in no time.”

“I can hardly take the credit for that. All I did was provide a bit of guidance for the real scientists.”

A smile slipped onto her face at my words. “I also heard that you are remarkably humble. Even to a fault. You would rather stay in the Everdeen pack even after the Alpha heir of Moonflame proposed.”

“Princess, what kind of person would I be if I let myself be swayed left and right by status? Besides, the higher you climbed, the harder you fell…would you not agree, princess?”

I scanned her from top to bottom. She was seventeen years old at most, her mother likely pregnant while mine

was.

For the king to have three different children with three different women in a span of a little over two years. It made me wonder just how many illegitimate children might be out there.

“I do not like your attitude,” she spat, going straight to the point. “You nearly killed that girl here.”

I shook my head as I laughed.
