My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 145

Chapter 145

Chloe’s POV

The picnic was even more lovely than I thought it would be.

Rather than a picturesque grassy field, he had chosen the area in front of a waterfall as the location for our date.

His reasoning was that I loved the sound of water. I was not sure how and when he realized that.

I thought I would be nervous on my first date with Axel as an official couple but I was strangely comfortable around him.

Comfortable enough to let some nerdy jokes slip out and pick out the tomatoes out of my sandwich.

“Can you stop being picky with your food?” he teased as he took another bite of the tomato I had put on his plate.

I watched him with slight disgust as he swallowed, his expression remaining neutral. “How do you eat that stuff? It’s so…”

I shuddered, remembering all the times I had had to eat tomatoes from the restaurant behind the crappy apartment I lived in with my mother.

The owner was a mean old lady who refused to spare any other ingredients besides vegetables that were on the verge of going bad.

Because Mum would be out late working, I would go over to the restaurant and have my dinner made from her leftovers. I ate so many tomatoes that I became sick of them.

It was also during that time I started to love pastries. They were costly in the side of town I lived in but once Mum had brought some home because one of the people she cleaned for had some leftover birthday cake.

I ate cake for the first time when I was seven and never forgot the taste.

Noticing I had gone quiet, Axel reached forward and intertwined his fingers with mine. “You’re crying.”

My hand lifted to my face and surprisingly, there were tears streaming down my face. I quickly wiped it, trying not to ruin the mood but Axel did not look like he minded.

“Here,” he said and handed me a tissue.

I took it from him and tried to make myself look presentable without smudging my makeup. “I just remembered some stuff from the past. It was long ago though. Before my mother married David.”

Axel could easily infer the kind of life I lived with my mother after the King abandoned us.

He turned to face the rushing waterfall. “So…is there anything you want to do now that you have money and all the time in the world? Like something specific?”

I blinked at his questioning before copying his stance. “Something specific…” A thought came to mind and my cheeks tinted at how childish the idea was.

Axel noticed and leaned closer. “What is it? Is it something embarrassing?”

“No,” I said, hiding my face. “Just forget it.”

Axel did not drop it. He kept teasing me about it, poking my sides until I blurted it out. “I want to go on a rollercoaster!”

He paused. “Oh.”

My lips parted at his casual response. Was it really that silly?

Sure, it was not something an eighteen year old girl should want but I did not really have the most ideal childhood where we could spend money on transport and tickets to an amusement park.

“I have not been on a rollercoaster either,” Axel said, shrugging casually. “We can find one around here if you want.”

My face blanked. “Wait, what? Seriously? Luna never took you. Not even once?””

Axel shook his head. “I had so many lessons as a child that most of my free time was spent doing homework and extra study.”

He paused. “Now that I say it out loud, I realize how sad it sounds. We both had pretty shitty childhoods, huh?”

Without meaning to, I threw my head back and burst into loud laughter.

Axel chuckled beside me, his gaze on me the whole time. He stared so hard that I became uncomfortable. “What is it?” I muttered.

He sat closer and brushed my hair out of my face. “You are so beautiful,” he muttered, his gaze darting around my face like he was seeing me for the first time.

My first reaction was to deny it or laugh the compliment off but he looked so serious that it made me feel guilty for even thinking that way.

I leaned my head against his chest. “You do not look too bad yourself,” I responded, my arms wrapping around his torso.

Axel pulled me onto him and laid back on the ground. The position was weirdly intimate, considering the fact that we were lying on a rock.

I moved in first to kiss me but he held me back by my shoulders. Instantly, my heart fell.

Did he not want to kiss me?

Axel’s arms slid down to my waist, his eyes slightly darkening. “Chloe, how far am I allowed to go with you now?”

I blinked. “What?”

“I am sure you would not want your first time with me to be in the open on the bank of a waterfall.”
