My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152

Chloe’s POV

“Separate them!” someone yelled in the smoke. “Take them out one after the other!”

While our assailants had organized their ranks, it took embarrassingly long for the Alpha and Luna heirs to understand the situation and respond accordingly.

By then, most had inhaled the smoke and whatever was in it and started to sway on their feet.

Axel instantly lifted me into his arms and started to run deeper into the forest. The other Alphas who were still slightly coherent did the same with their Lunas following his lead.

When we arrived at a place where the gas had not touched, I instantly found Riven and Sandra and held

onto them.

They were coughing but they were mostly alright.

Just then, Axel turned around and was about to head back into the fog when I held his arm. “What are you doing?”

“There are still people left back there. I need to go help…besides, the attackers-”

“–are not your responsibility,” I interrupted to remind him. “This is not our territory. I am sure that the royal family has their people taking care of…”

My words trailed off when Darius came out of the fog, carrying the Assassin King on his back. His face was tight with rage.

“Hunters,” Darius said, his voice clipped. “They specifically targeted the guards within the royal pack. All of the guards in the nearest one mile radius are incapacitated.”

If they were able to get the Assassin King as well, then there must be some kind of common trigger.

Perhaps something in the food? No, we ate that too.

Maybe, some kind of spell?

I shook my head. This was not the time.

Axel was right. We could not stand to the side as other Alpha and Luna heirs were killed by humans of all things. Where would that leave our dignity as wolves?

I let go of Axel’s hands. “Be safe,” he said and shifted into his wolf, heading back into the fog.

It took a bit of mobilization but the other Alphas joined in and they all went into the fog to help, leaving us women by ourselves.

They had barely been gone for two minutes when one of the women stood up. “I think we should select a leader for ourselves. My name is Janine, the Luna of—”

“Do

you think anyone cares who you are? Sit down!” someone snarled from the back and the other

yelled in agreement.

Even if we wanted a leader, why would we pick someone weaker than us?”

“The mate of Moonflame’s next Alpha is sitting down and you dare to stand up. Who do you think you are?”

Slowly, all eyes turned towards Riven. She remained adamantly in her position, resting her back against

a tree.

“I have no idea why you think we need a leader,” she finally said. “And even if we do, I cannot be bothered. Speak to someone who has actually learned battle strategy or war tactics.”

The Lunas fell silent, looking amongst themselves.

Dread swelled in my chest for a different reason. Over twenty women from different Alpha families and no one could step up in a battle.

What real use were we to our mates besides having being nosy into the affairs of other people and being spiteful?

Most of us here were simply trophy wives.

Riven let out a small snort. “Isn’t this cute?” She looked up at Janine. “You wanted to lead? You think a battlefield with real blood is somewhere you can show off on?”

Suddenly, the air around us shifted. I looked up as the fog in the sky cleared.

The Lunas started to rejoice but only a few others realized that something had gone seriously wrong with this battle.

Slowly, Seraphina stood to her feet. I made eye contact with her right before she growled, shifted into her wolf and started running in the direction that the men had gone.

Riven was about to follow after her when the women blocked her path. “You’re being reckless. You want to put the rest of us in danger-”

Riven snapped and slapped the person who had spoken. “Out of my way,” she growled, stumbling slightly as she clutched her head.

Darius was still not fully healed from his battle back in Moonflame and something else had happened to him. She must be feeling his pain through the bond.

I helped her stand straight. “Riven, you can hold on. Let Sera go and check-”

Just then, a sharp pain sliced through my chest. My wolf tore to the surface, quickly scanning our surroundings.

Six. No. Twelve men approached and they were running fast.

“Lunas, shift!” I snarled, my wolf’s energy slipping into the command.
