My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 161

Chapter 161

Chloe’s POV

Axel was waiting in front of the palace gates when Nicola and I stepped out.

When I saw him, my eyes lit up and I ran to him. “How long have you been waiting here? You could have come inside.”

Axel smiled down at me, his hands running through my hair. “Did any of them bother you?”

Nicola let out a small sound of disgust. “Stop treating her like she is some innocent angel. You should have heard her calling the director of biology an idiot to his face.”

Axel’s brow raised and he looked down at me for confirmation but Nicola just kept talking.

“Then she pitched a multi-million dollar project to us, fully funded by the royal family but somehow, she has a cut as a shareholder. For such a little lady, she has frightful business instincts.”

I smiled up at Axel. “I will explain later but for now, I’m so hungry.”

After lunch, I gathered everyone including Viktor around the lunch table. Before we started, I looked around. “Hey, have any of you seen Jax recently?”

“Nope. He did not come down for breakfast either,” Darius’ said, tapping the table with his finger. “But I saw Hannah returning to her bedroom at five in the morning. It looked like neither of them slept in bed.”

“I wonder who they are plotting to kill this time.”

I glanced at Axel to already find him looking at me with an amused expression. We both knew our siblings better than anyone else and could guess what they were truly up to.

Riven caught our expression and her eyes widened. “You’re joking,” she whispered.

When neither Axel nor me laughed. She leaned forward on the desk. “Seriously. Here? Wait a minute, do they actually do it back home?”

I sighed. “I choose to mind my business,” I said, pushing the topic away. “This is why I called you all.”

I set down the proposal that Liam had drafted and delivered in the center of the table.

“A new business idea?” Darius said, slowly opening the papers. When he read the first paragraph, he froze and then brought it closer.

He quickly skimmed through the first page and was on the second when he looked up at me. “The prince is sponsoring this?” he whispered, his grip tight around the pages.

I grinned. “That is not even the best part.”

I flipped to the fifth page that showed the clause stating that Everdeen and Moonflame would have priority evaluation of their requests for the next two decades.

“But with Viktor as the CEO, that will probably last even longer,” I said and everyone around the table turned to my bodyguard.

Slowly, his hand raised and pointed to himself. “Me?”

I nodded and explained everything I had told Liam to hitn. They all listened in silence until I finished.

“That’s it,” I said, relaxing back in my chair.

Viktor’s expression was blank and then he asked. “Is this about me and Mara?”

I hummed. “Since I have the ability now, the least I can do is step in to make things work. By the way, this is not a favor. When you take this up, you will need to pay me back in full.”

Vitkor bowed his head. “Of course, Luna. You have my eternal gratitude.”

I clapped my hands and stood: “I want to head back to get some rest. The past few days have been hectic. Viktor, I trust that you will relay the news to Mara.”

As I walked towards my bedroom, I had a light skip in my step.

Everything was going well for now. The only thing I was still worrying about for now was the attack on the royal pack a few nights ago.

Those hunters had known that the young Alphas had gathered and knew exactly where we would be at that time. That gas they released too was far too strong.

The royal pack clearly had some kind of mole. Perhaps, there was one amongst the Alphas or Luna heirs.

It would not be the first time in history where werewolves partnered with humans to harm other wolves. But usually, they always had a motive.

I wondered what it was this time.

For now, Liam was looking into it. As curious as I was, there was no way to keep the Alphas and the Lunas here in the royal pack until the investigation was concluded.

If the royal family showed that they did not trust the next generations of leaders of the packs, it would not only destroy the reputation of the royal family but cause them to lose the reverence of wolves everywhere.

By now, the trip was already delayed. Any more could be an insult.\

I was so lost in my thoughts that I did not notice bumping into someone until I was falling back.

A familiar pair of eyes blinked down at me and I seemed to be transported back in time.

I immediately pushed Jax off of me and stepped out of his reach. “Sorry. Thank you. Sorry, I was not watching where I was going.”

Jax shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. “It’s alright… I heard you went to the palace again today?”

Why was he making small talk with me? Did he want something?

“Yes, the prince asked to see me,” I replied and he nodded, a strange emotion appearing in his eyes and vanishing in a split second.
