My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 162

Chapter 162

Chloe’s POV

Over the next few days, I spent more and more time in the palace, working with Liam and Nicola on the plans for the agency.

We had been arguing about the location when the door was thrown open.

Princess Camilla stood in the doorway, her mouth open like she had been about to say something but

paused when she saw me.

Her jaw clenched. “What are you doing here?” she spat.

I smirked. “Last I remembered, this was not your office. Perhaps, do you want to have control over how I use my legs?”

“This is not…” She trailed off when she saw Nicola leaning over my chair from behind as the three of us were hunched over a map. “What are you doing?”

“Too complicated for you, princess,” Nicola said in the most condescending tone I had ever heard. “Why don’t you get back to your tea parties? We will give you a call if we need an opinion on the garden’s aesthetic choices.”

Camilla flushed so red that she could have been a tomato.

I glanced up at Nicola, wondering if it was alright for him to insult the princess to her face and then, I remembered that no one would care.

Not the king and definitely not the queen. She could only swallow her grievances because the king would not offend his blade for the sake of an illegitimate daughter.

…The longer I thought more deeply about it, the more I realized how lonely Camilla was.

She seemed to be living the best possible life a young female wolf could be living but she was even more sad

than the rest of us.

“Stop looking at me like I am a charity case!” she suddenly snapped at me.

My brow raised and I turned away from her. “Sorry. Liam, what were you saying?”

Camilla walked into the room as we continued to talk and stood by the desk, listening for a long time.

When we slowed for a snack break, she moved closer to the table and looked down at the map that was spread out.

“What do you even know about all this stuff?” she muttered, hoping to send a jab at me but there was no fire behind her words.

Rather, she was very curious, trying and failing to understand what she had heard.

The fact that I had been able to participate in the conversation meant that we had not been talking about a particularly complex topic.

Just a bit of geography and strategy. If Camilla even read a little beyond the palace walls, she would be able

to fallow the conversation at the very least, even if she could not participate.

Now, I had to think of the most delicate way to inform her that she was simply unlearned.

“Camilla, do you want some cupcakes?” Liam asked after he had eaten three by himself. His other hand was on his laptop, fingers flying across the keyboard.

Camilla hummed and took the cupcake from him, eating so slowly and delicate that I was certain that she was not enjoying the snack.

As Liam moved to grab something, the icing on his fourth cupcake fell onto the keyboard of his laptop.

I clicked my tongue as I grabbed a tissue, leaning over to wipe his keyboard. “After all these years, you are still a child. You don’t know how to eat properly.”

Liam grinned at me, exposing the cake bits stuck to his teeth. My nose scrunched in disgust and I slapped the back of his head.

“Close your dirty mouth,” I snapped.

Liam flinched and snapped his mouth shut, taking a sip of his water. “Can you be a bit gentler on the head that carries the crown?”

I snorted, shaking my head. “With you like this, I fear for the future of our kingdom.” I glanced at Camilla. ” You want to try your hand at being crown princess?”

Camilla had been staring at Liam and me with a weird, shattered expression on her face. When I asked her that question, her mood quickly turned angry.

She slammed her fist on the table and turned out of the office, stomping away. My gaze followed her until

she was gone.

“What is her problem?” I muttered.

Nicola looked up from the dessert he was breaking into parts. “She is an insecure brat and has been comparing herself to you since the first day you were acknowledged by His Majesty.”

After I heard that, I could not find in my heart to remain irritated at her.

Suddenly, Nicola snorted. “Do not feel sorry for her. She must be orchestrating something to restore her honor in everyone’s sight.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

Liam stepped in. “Stop it, Nicola.”

“Why?” Nicola challenged him. “If Chloe might be attacked later on, it would be better to let her know now …don’t tell me that you naively believe that Camilla would let her go because you guys are siblings.”

“I did not say that,” Liam said with a tight jaw.
