Chapter 167

Hannah’s POV-

“Can you stop tapping your feet on the ground? It is grating on my nerves.”

My head snapped to Jax who was sitting with his feet kicked up on the table, watching some stupid television show.

“How can you be so calm?! Your father is clearly discussing important matters with Axel!”

When he shrugged, I wanted to jump forward and pull his hair out.

“He is clearly leaving you out! Does that not bother you?” I asked.

Jax turned to me with a raised brow. “What do you expect me to do? Barge into his office and demand to be a part of the conversation? Are you trying to get me killed?”

His phone lit up with a text. When he saw the text, he muted the show so he could read it and immediately typed out a reply.

My hands curled into fists at my side at being ignored.

If not for the fact that I knew he was going to be Alpha, I would have left him by now.

At around this time, Jax should have started to improve his reputation and be given more tasks by his father. He also handled the different tasks he was given efficiently.

Why has that not happened yet?

Was there something special that he was supposed to be doing?

“Why don’t you ask your father to help with his tasks?” I said, speaking softer to try and convince him. “I am sure that he would not turn you down.”

Jax’s face scrunched like he could not imagine the thought. “Why would I ask him for more work? Axel can handle it-”

“Do you think you will have any room left in this pack once Axel becomes Alpha?”

My words made Jax pause and he turned to me with furrowed brows. “What is that supposed to mean?”

I snorted. “I said what I said. What pack have you seen where two Alpha brothers stayed in the same pack and there was no war? One subordinate to the other.”

Jax frowned. “There are many packs where two brothers stay in the same pack-”

“One serving as the Alpha and the other as the Beta, right?” I completed his words and then sat beside him. “Let me rephrase my question. Do you think Chloe will let us remain in this pack once she becomes Launa?”

The mere mention of Chloe’s name was enough to make him defensive. “Chloe is not like that.”

“I know my sister better than you do. Right now, she is territorial and possessive. Once she is given an actual title with power, can you imagine what she would do to us?”

Jax shook his head, shrugging my hand off his arm.

“Hannah, I have been around Chloe for the past few months as well and she is nothing like you always say she is.

Don’t you ever stop to think about the fact that the only people in the pack and outside it that have a bad impression of your sister are you and your family?”

When he said that, my face twisted in shock.

I shot to my feet. “You’re taking her side!”

Jax sighed like I was being a nuisance. “This has nothing to do with taking sides,” he said. “I am saying the truth

My fist came down on his chest. “I am just trying to do what is best for us and our child and you are taking another woman’s side.”

Tears flowed down my face easily and Jax’s expression crumpled. He pulled me into a hug, apologizing profusely.

“I did not mean it like that,” he said, running his hands through my hair. “I just don’t want you to worry so much and focus on taking care of your health.”

When we pulled back, I looked at his face for any indication that he was lying to me.

Jax’s expression was soft and tender, bearing the exact same affection that he had looked at Chloe with in my past life.

Yes. I had won. I had taken away Jax from Chloe.

What was the point if Axel was being loving to Chloe for now? He would soon die anyway and she would get to experience the life of a young widow who lost everything.

“Jax, I still think you should take up more roles by your father’s side,” I whispered, my hand moving to my belly. “Earning money in your name would be more secure for us and the baby in case anything happened.”

Jax thought for some time though there was really nothing to think about.

I waited, outwardly patient and inwardly irritated for him to make his decision.

Finally, he nodded. “You’re right,” he whispered and pressed his lips to my forehead. “I am going to be a father. It does not look good to be dependent on my family like this.”

When he said that, I beamed. “Okay, can you go to your father now?”

Jax nodded and left the room. Only after he had gone did I realize that I had not mentioned securing the money for the investment with Regali.

I shook my head. There was no need to tell him.

I already spoke to Daddy and he was going to give me the money. The first hundred thousand dollars I put in had already seen an increase of four hundred thousand in just a few days.

When I went all in with another million, I would be even wealthier than Chloe.
