My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 169

Chapter 169

Chloe’s POV

A few days later, the Regali family launched their fashion line.

Axel and I laid in bed, side by side, watching their stock increase. For fun, we kept refreshing the page and saw it climbing higher and higher.

After some time, Axel turned to me. “Is there any reason we are watching the stock market on the morning of our mating ceremony?”

I hummed in the affirmative. “I want someone to think we are hiding out in our room. She has been giving me strange looks all week.”

I was certain that Hannah was up to something. I just was not sure what it was yet.

Axel pressed his lips to my neck. “Should I be worried? You look ready to kill someone.”

“Not yet,” I replied. The Regali family had not harmed me in this life or in my past life. There was no reason for me to go after them.

Yet I kept them on my radar just in case Hannah decided to be foolish.

Axel shook his head as he got out of bed. “We should get going. Father asked to see us this morning.”

The pack house was very rowdy when Axel and I stepped outside. All the servants were running back and forth, making preparations with large smiles on their faces.

When we got to Alpha Paul’s office, he was in a conversation with Alpha David. My eyes lit up. I had not even known when Moonflame arrived.

Alpha Paul clicked his tongue. “This brat. She never looks this glad to see me.”

My nose scrunched. “Alpha, you never look happy to see me either…and you keep calling me a brat.”

Before Alpha Paul could say anything else, Alpha David cut in. “Leave the poor girl alone. Today is her mating ceremony…that said…”

He trailed off, looking outside the door. “I have not seen your family in the house at all.”

Axel sighed. “Father, what was eventually done about the Beta?”

Alpha Paul leaned back in his chair. “The evidence was damning enough but the fact that Chloe’s mother refused to testify to his abuse meant that we had no headway. I cannot punish the Beta of the pack based on one person’s testimony.”

What worsened matters was that there would have been no one to speak on my behalf as well since I had been completely isolated for my entire life.

Axel’s jaw clenched. “Her mother testified against her?”

I held Axel’s arm, shaking my head. “It’s alright. I would have been more surprised if she was on my side. I do not want any of them helping me get ready.”

Axel nodded and cupped my cheek. “Just take us as your family. Don’t think of them anymore.”

The back of my eyes burned with tears and I nodded. “Okay,” I said and turned to the two Alphas seated with wide

smiles. “So who exactly is my dad in the two of you?”

Alpha Paul sent a glare to Alpha David. “I hope you remember that this is not your territory.”

My godfather shrugged. “She has been my goddaughter long before you accepted her as your daughter-in-law.

“You-” Alpha Paul sighed and then turned to Axel and me. “I called you here for another reason. You must have seen the news about the Regali family this morning.”

Axel and I gave each other glances before nodding.

Alpha Paul’s eyes slightly narrowed. “You two know something. What is it?”

I shook my head, keeping my expression blank. It was not yet time to reveal Regali’s messy dealings.

When Hannah had climbed high enough and gloated, then I would pull the rug from under her feet.

Alpha Paul nodded though I was sure that he did not believe me and kept speaking.

“This morning, Hannah and her father submitted a report to my desk about their current investment in the Regali family and said that they are willing to donate seventy percent of all proceeds to the pack.”

My brows raised.

Since when did Hannah and David become so generous?

Alpha Paul leaned forward on the table. “I want to ask if you know anything about that and what you believe I should do.”

Axel opened his mouth to respond but his father cut in. “I was speaking to Chloe.”

My mate’s mouth snapped shut and he raised his hands in the air, moving to sit on the couch.

I intertwined my hands behind my back. “Well, why not? If they are offering money, take it.”

“You do realize that this is an attempt to undermine your contributions to the pack,” my godfather explained. “I have heard that their possible returns are in the tens of millions.”

My head tilted. “And what does that have to do with me? We are all contributing to the pack. A few extra million in the pack’s treasury means good for us all.”

The more I spoke, the more tense the atmosphere in the room grew.

Alpha Paul crossed his arms as he glared at me. “What are you up to?”

“What do you mean, Alpha?”

“You are never kind for no reason. The fact that you are letting Hannah do this to you means that you either know something or are up to something. In this case, I believe that it is both.”
