Chapter 170
Chloe’s POV
As the words left Alpha Paul’s mouth, there was a knock on the door.
“Enter,” he said and a maid stepped into the room.
Her entire body trembled as she spoke, her eyes on the ground. “Luna, I was sent by the head maid to seek your help. Miss Hannah, she is changing the arrangements that you instructed for your ceremony.”
My eyes narrowed. The money had not even come in and she was already lashing out.
“Is Luna Diane around?” I asked the maid.
“No, Luna. She went with Luna Silvia and her two daughters to have a morning picnic in the lily field,” the maid explained. “Before they left, Luna instructed the head maid to oversee the arrangements.’
“Thank you,” I said coldly. “I will be there soon. I am busy at the moment.”
After dismissing her, the maid did not move.
“She told you to leave,” Axel snapped and the maid dropped to her knees, bowing her head.
“Alpha, Luna. I deserve punishment. I overstepped my bounds by coming to get you but…the head maid is being punished and none of us knew who to turn to.”
The maid sounded like she was on the verge of tears. “I decided to try my luck here. The head maid is old and should be retired by now. She cannot bear kneeling for any longer.”
Anger burned hot inside of me.
“Alpha, may I be allowed to leave?” I hissed. “It seems that something urgent has come up.”
Alpha Paul waved his hand and I threw open the door so hard that it nearly burst off his hinges.
The scent of Hannah’s cloying perfume led me straight to the kitchen. She sat in a chair, eating fruit while the head maid, a woman old enough to be her great grandmother, was kneeling in front of her.
“Agatha, I do not have time for this nonsense,” she said, her voice biting. “Give the papers to me before I lose my patience.”
Agatha had some papers peeking out the front of her shirt. She had stuffed them down her body just to prevent Hannah from taking them.
Judging by how the old woman was trembling, she had been kneeling for a great deal of time, probably before I even got out of bed.
“I was given instructions from my Luna and I answer to no one otherwise,” the old woman said firmly.
Hannah tossed the glass cup in her hand right on the floor and it shattered right at Agatha’s knees.
She was about to move towards Agatha when I caught her by her hair and slapped her right across the cheek.
Hannah stumbled, her back slamming against the counter. She looked at me like she wanted to kill me.
“You…how dare you?” she spat and I slapped her again.
“Who do you think you are talking to like that?” I spat, grabbing her by her hair.

I turned to the maids who were watching near the door. “Get Madam Agatha to her feet and help her clean up. Call The Alpha family physician as well.”
The maids rushed in and helped Agatha stand. Because of how weak she was to even stand, one of the men who worked in the kitchen carried her on his back outside.
“Chloe,” Hannah hissed. “I am pregnant and you hit me. If anything happens to the grandchild of this pack-
“Spare me your bullshit,” I snapped back and she gasped.
“You think you can threaten me with a pregnancy that is barely three months old? There are hundreds of women in the world, in this pack alone, that can carry the heir of the Everdeen family. Do not think you are special.”
The more I thought about her pregnancy, the more I was certain that she was faking it.
She was just looking for a foothold. Anything that she would use to surpass me.
For someone who had received everything while growing up, it was so ridiculous that she felt the need to compete against me for everything.
So much so that she was willing to throw herself into a fire pit to prove she was better than me.
Hannah pried my grip from her hair and put distance between our bodies.
