Chapter 17
Chloe’s POV
“Chloe,” Luna Diane called behind me.
I was about to rise from my seat at the dining table to greet her but she waved me to sit down.
“I will make this quick. There is a dispute between two of the clan sub-families about the security arrangement. for the banquet. I have other tasks to attend to but Paul wants it sorted out before the guests start to arrive.”
My back straightened as my gaze shifted to the clock. It was 11 am so the guests were supposed to start arriving in four hours.
It was very late to still be having disputes about security and I was sure that Luna Diane would not have made the mistake of letting this go on when it could directly harm the reputation of the pack…
Oh. This was a test.
Luna Diane nodded though I had not said a word. “I have assigned Hannah. She should be on her way to meet the sub clans now so-”
I was out of my chair, running towards the front door the moment Luna Diane said that. This was not really a matter of competing for favour.
When Hannah was not being a mistress of seduction, she was one of chaos. I could bet my liver that she was going
to make the matter worse.
Thankfully, I caught up to her before she was about to enter the car that would take her to meet the sub clans.
“Hannah!” I called her name before she could close the door of the car.
She paused, scanning for who was calling her. When she saw it was me, her face scrunched in literal disgust as she looked down at me as though I was a pest. “What?”
It was easy to ignore her attitude.
My mind was on the pack’s reputation as I recognized that this was not a matter that Hannah and I could reduce to our squabbles.
“Luna Diane told me to work on the matter of the security. She said we are to work together,” I said, stressing the last part.
Hannah’s eyes narrowed slowly. “She did not communicate that to me-
I moved past her into the car, cutting her shut. “Shall we?”
I probably should have asked of the two sub-clans that were in the dispute before running out. If I had known it was the Eden and Harrow sub-clans of the Epsilon clan, I might have asked Luna Diane to reconsider sending me on this assignment.
These two were notorious for being the most headstrong groups within Everdeen and even beyond our borders.
“So you…” I pointed to the Eden sub-clan. “…said that they…” I pointed to Harrow. “…changed the scheduling orders that came signed and stamped from Alpha Paul’s office?”
Eden erupted into indignant cries, hurling curses in their thicker accent at Harrow.

I pinched the bridge of my nose, wondering what it would take for them to realize how ridiculous their words sounded.
Did they realize that they were implying that Alpha Paul was either deceitful or unfair?
Before I could say anything, Hannah clicked her tongue, sending Harrow a stink eye.
My head snapped up. What did she think she was doing?
I grabbed her hand before she could go any further, my smile tight on my face. “Hannah, can I speak to you… privately?”
She shrugged my hand off and followed me, chewing on her gum. “What?”
“This matter is deeper than the surface. Eden will not make such a claim so rashly if they did not have personal beef with Harrow,” I explained.
Perhaps she would see sense and hold back on whatever nasty thing she would have said that would worsen the situation.
She let out a ragged sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose. “This is not a complicated matter. Just force Harrow to agree to the scheduling pattern that Eden wants and everyone will be fine.”
Excuse me?
“Hannah, forcing them now will only bring about problems later during the banquet. Luna Diane would want us to be diplomatic-”
“She wants this matter solved as quickly as possible,” Hannah replied. “I have authority as the Alpha’s daughter- in-law. I can make this happen.”
She did not wait for my response as she walked off to the side of Eden. Their leader watched her skeptically at first but after a few exchanged words, he stood and followed her with his men.
