Chapter 174
Chloe’s POV
“Luna Silvia is walking her? Is this some kind of show of power?”
“Where is her birth mother? I thought Everdeen were sticklers for the rules.”
“So the rumours that she was estranged from her family were true…she certainly is fortunate to have the Moonflame family in her corner.”
Luna Silvia did not need to lean over to tell me to keep my head straight.
All of these rumours meant absolutely nothing to me. My gaze was fixed on my mate who was standing at the end of the aisle, wearing a wide smile on his face.
When I returned his smile, he gulped and looked away momentarily. Tony slid him a tissue from behind and Axel’s fingers closed around it quickly like he was hiding stolen money.
The sight nearly made me pause. He had been moved to tears.
Wow…just wow.
When we got to the altar, he held my hand, taking me from Luna Silvia. She leaned in and pressed a kiss against my forehead before turning to Axel.
“You know what it means for her to agree to be your Luna,” she reminded him and he nodded.
“I will never let her regret it,” he said. “I promise.”
The ceremony started and I could barely hear a word. I was completely lost from just staring at his face, wondering how we had gotten here after so long.
His lips quirked. “I must look that handsome, huh?” he teased under his breath so he would not interrupt the officiator who was going on and on about vows.
“You still have not told me I look beautiful,” I replied.
His hands squeezed around mine. “My apologies, my lovely mate. I will ensure to wake up every morning and remind you of that.”
I rolled my eyes but I could not wipe the smile off my face.
Axel grinned, trying to step closer towards me but the officiator cleared his throat, giving us soft glares to tell us to behave ourselves.
Finally, it came the time for the vows.
“Alpha Axel Everdeen, please repeat after me.”
Without waiting for the officiator to speak, Axel said the vows as he knew them by heart.
“I, Axel Everdeen, future Alpha of the Everdeen pack, take Chloe Waterson as my mate, my Luna, and my equal. Before the Moon and our pack, I vow to stand beside you, protect you, and choose you every single day for as long as we both shall live.”
I could not help but tear up at the words, my throat clogging as I tried to get the words out.

Amira stepped forward from behind me and dabbed my tears softly with a tissue. Her palm pressed against my Back until I could breathe again.
“I, Chloe Waterson, take Axel Everdeen as my mate, my Alpha and my equal. Before the Moon and our pack, I vow to stand beside you, support you and choose you every day for as long as we both shall live.”
For a moment, nothing happened. Then the silver light shone over us.
I felt something wrap around my chest and I knew the bond was sealed.
Just as I thought the ceremony was over, Axel stepped closer, holding my hands tightly.
Without his needing to say a word, I understood what he was asking. I brushed my hair away from my neck, baring it to him.
Amira gasped behind me as she stepped back. I closed my eyes as Axel stepped closer and whispered. “Are you sure?”
My hands curled into fists, holding his shirt tightly.
Why should I let my past life’s experiences prevent me from going all in on a love that I desperately wanted?
However, there was still the small part of me that wanted to protect myself.
“As long as I get to mark you as well,” I whispered.
Axel chuckled and pressed his lips to my collarbone, the spot where his teeth would go in.
“Of course, love,” he said softly and sank his canines into my skin.
A scream bubbled its way out of my stomach but in a moment, the pain transformed into overwhelming pleasure.
Every lick Axel used to soothe the wound sent sparks trickling down to my toes.
The feeling was inexplicable. The urge to hold onto Axel and never let go swelled on the inside of me.
The entire time, he held onto me until I stopped trembling. Then, his forehead pressed against mine. “You want to go now?” he whispered against my lips.
I hummed and moved my mouth to his throat.
The uproar immediately rose from the crowd, making me want to step back but Axel’s hands gripped my waist tightly.
“Don’t listen to them. This is our relationship,” he said gently, his fingers running through my hair as he soothed
I nodded and marked him as well. Axel’s grip tightened around my waist and then, he let out a low growl, swearing under his breath.
“I should have done this in our bedroom,” he muttered, utterly annoyed by himself.
