Chapter 178

Caloe’s POV

Luna Silvia and I flew out of the bedroom in unison, rushing down the stairs.

The sight made my breath catch in my throat.

Hannah was on the ground, clutching her stomach as she cried in pain. Blood flowed from between her legs, dripping onto the ground.

Everyone watched in shock and horror, too scared to approach her.

I could not blame them. If they interfered, if she actually got hurt or lost the baby, they would be dragged down as

well.

“Get a doctor!” I snapped and several maids ran out the door at full speed.

Luna Silvia damned the consequences and rushed to her side. “Breathe through your nose, Hannah. This could just be a scare. Many pregnant women spot before their pregnancies.”

Hannah had real tears in her eyes. The pain on her face could hardly be faked.

Now, I was conflicted. Would she actually harm herself to this extent to put me or someone else in trouble?

But before I could soften, I reminded myself that this was Hannah. She was an attention whore and had harmed herself in the past to get it.

When we were children, she used pens, knives, even my computer once.

I should not expect anything different from her just because we were older.

In minutes, the doctors came in and carried her on a stretcher to the hospital. By now, the whole pack house was

awake.

Alpha Paul and Luna Diane came down the stairs. Their eyes found me first. “What happened?” Alpha asked.

“Hannah was spotting…bleeding,” I said calmly, turning towards the breakfast table. “Did she eat anything before it happened?”

The people around simply pointed to a bowl of porridge in front of her empty chair.

That bowl only confirmed that something fishy was going on. It was plain.

Like Hannah would go out of her way to eat plain food when she could demand that the kitchen would make her whatever because of the fact that she was pregnant.

I was about to touch the bowl when someone reached forward and grabbed my wrist.

Hannah’s father was glaring down at me, his grip tightening around my wrist. “Do not touch that bowl,” he hissed.

I tugged my wrist from his grip but he refused to budge. “Let go of me.”

“No. So you can dispose of the evidence? No way.”

Those words completely changed the narrative in the room. I kept my gaze firmly on his. “Are you implying that I could have harmed Hannah?”

David did not reply but his gaze was accusatory enough.

This was their plan

No wonder she had been rushing whoever she was on the phone with the night before. She wanted to pull this stunt while the guests who had arrived for the ceremony were still around.

Only that she did not consider the blow to the pack’s reputation that this would result in.

It was barely twenty four hours after I had been made Luna and we were already showing division within our pack leadership.

However, she was smart in the sense that she could use the fact that we had guests to limit my retaliation. I could not be as ruthless as I wanted to be because there were outsiders on pack land.

I looked back to Alpha Paul and Luna Diane and bowed.

“Alpha, can you have one of your people take it for testing?” I asked. “I assume no one will have any issues with that.”

Alpha Paul’s face was blank but his eyes were blazing with fury at the embarrassment. He signaled one of his guards to take the bowl before returning up the stairs.

Luna Silvia grabbed my hand and slipped out the back door to the garden. “This will definitely be a problem. Alpha Paul will be pressured to give a verdict because of the people wandering the grounds.”

I thought about the ways that Hannah could pin this on me.

She could use the kitchen. She could use the maids that attended to me.

She could use Mara and cite our relationship as the cause for Mara getting overly devoted and deciding to get rid of the baby so nothing would threaten my position as the future Luna.

That was the reason that made the most sense.

“I need to search Mara’s bedroom,” I said, returning to the pack house.

I slipped back into the house and up the stairs, making sure that no one followed me.

Mara’s bedroom was at the end of the corridor of that floor. I tried the knob and to no surprise, the door slid open easily.
