Chloe’s POV

I waved one of the servants over and whispered my instructions to accelerate the event that I planned for last.

She nodded and hurried out of the hall. Meanwhile, I returned to my eating, glancing at Hannah and Luna Silvia from the corner of my eyes.

The debacle was getting louder with Hannah now actually yelling loudly for Alpha David who had probably stepped out for a conversation.

Jax was about to move when Luna Diane and I hissed in unison. “Sit down.”

If any of us went over there, this would officially become a serious matter that the entire hall would definitely pay attention to.

It would spread that we, as the Alpha family represented by Hannah, did not know how to treat guests. For now, it was just the matter of an overly enthusiastic eighteen year old girl doing too much to help.

Luna Silvia’s smile remained plastered on her face as she tried to pry her hands from Hannah’s and failed. Her entire body was trembling, the attention no doubt making the illness worse.

I tapped my foot on the ground impatiently.

Where the hell were they? Did I not tell them to be waiting outside?

Luna Silvia let out a small shaky breath, her head tilting forward. Just as Hannah prepared to scream, the door opened with loud ritual music playing through the hall.

I stood and walked briskly to the microphone.

“Good evening, everyone. It is the honour of the Everdeen pack to host the Alpha banquet this year. However, this banquet would not be complete for us if we did not pay our respects to the Moon Goddess.”

My hand mostly hidden by the podium waved Axel towards me. I was not sure if he understood what was happening but he stood and walked towards me anyway.

“Just a few weeks ago, the Everdeen pack was granted a blessing. The two Alpha sons mated in the same week. In light of this, our Alpha and Luna thought it would be fitting that we offer the Goddess a blessing on this fine night.”

Jax looked from Axel and I on the podium to his mate who was now watching us with anger and confusion.

We were ruining her plan to stick by Luna Silvia’s side the whole night. But that was the point.

Luna Silvia needed to get some air before she actually passed out in the hall and the last person who touched her was a member of the Alpha family of Everdeen.

Hannah forced on a shaky smile and walked to Jax. His arm wrapped around her waist as he led her up the stairs to the podium, whispering something in her ear.

The giggle she let out sounded forced and fake. As she attempted to look back at Luna Silvia, the music started again, prompting everyone to bow and mutter prayers.

As everyone bowed, I found Luna Silvia’s eyes, gesturing with my head to the back rooms.

Her eyes shone with gratitude. She nodded once and slipped stealthily out of the hall.

The ritual lasted for another ten minutes and as soon as it was over, I waved to the staff to unveil the second round of fruits and pastries.

Between the talks of the mating and the new food and music, everyone was quickly distracted.

I got down from the podium, feeling Alpha Paul’s eyes following me down the stairs.

“Father,” Axel said and Alpha Paul turned away, taken in conversation by one of the Alphas who had just arrived and was lamenting that he nearly missed the ritual.
