My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 23

Chapter 23

Chloe’s POV

That was when the song abruptly switched.

I paused, my head stiapping first to the orchestra and saw Hannah coming down from the stage, her face set in determination.

“Do you know how to dance to this?” Axel asked, still holding my hand.

The song was a Moon worship rhythm from nearly the other side of the country. Luna Silvia’s birth pack had been the first one to use it a century ago before it was popularized.

“If we leave the stage now, that will only look more embarrassing, won’t it?” I replied, getting into position. ” What kind of Alpha couple did not know the moon jingle?”

“Your hand is in the wrong position,” Axel commented and my cheeks flushed.

I was not the most coordinated person, even less for a dance that required so many twists and turns.

Despite learning almost everything there was to know to be a Luna, this was one of the few hurdles I had never surpassed, even in my past life.

Hannah, on the other hand…

She was already dancing round the hall with Jax with absolute certainty in her steps. Everyone’s eyes were on her,

in awe.

Axel pulling me closer got my attention. “You want to keep Luna Silvia’s attention, don’t you?”

Luna Silvia was watching Hannah with an amused smile on her face. I did not know how much of an impact Hannah’s dance would have on her especially after Hannah’s earlier stunt.

But if there was the slightest possibility that Hannah’s carelessness was going to be brushed under the rug…

“Do you know how to?” I asked, knowing the answer. Hannah had always danced with him when they were married.

“Extend your senses,” he whispered. “Your wolf senses, focus on my movements and follow them. You will be fine.”

I was not fine.

Reacting in time to his steps was different from knowing the steps myself. The fast, beautiful dance now felt and probably looked clumsy.

I did hope that more people, if not everyone, was looking at Axel and that utterly confident look on his face.

My eyes could not help flitting to Hannah again. Her hair billowing behind her. Her laugh mixed with Jax echoing around them.

She was not really in a position to be envied but it was like a weight was pressed on my chest.

Suddenly, Axel’s head fell to my shoulder and he pulled us into a slower version of the original dance.

“What are you doing? Before I could look at Hannah again, my grip tightened around my waist.

“It is a fucking dance. Stop looking at him,” Axel spat, his voice low.

Him? Did he think I was looking at Jax?

Oh. I had danced with Jax before I danced with Axel. It was not only Jax that broke tradition by dancing with Hannah first; I did as well.

“I am sorry-”

“Do you think of me as your husband?” he asked. His hand lifted and wrapped my second arm around his neck so we were now half as slow as everyone else.

“What sort of a question is that?” I replied, wishing I could see his face right now and understand what he meant by that.

His entire body suddenly stiffened and he straightened, his face mostly blank with just his brows scrunched a bit

“Never mind,” he said, no longer meeting my eyes. Our bodies remained pressed close together until the song ended.

He was about to leave when Tony appeared out of nowhere, looking between the two of our faces.
