Chapter 25
Chloe’s POV
I sat up with a jolt, my entire body signalling me that something was wrong.
The sunlight streaming through the windows was far too harsh for the time to be well into noon.
My heart was pounding in my chest as I tried to get out of bed into my slippers. I had missed breakfast, probably. lunch too. They were going to….kill…me…
Who the hell was they?
My bedsheet dropped from my hand and I sat back on the bed, blinking slowly. My gaze moved to the clock beside
1:45pm.
When was the last time I slept in? How had I even been allowed to sleep for this long?
I was always up before six every single morning to make breakfast. Even now that I live in the pack house, I joined them in the kitchen to cook.
It would take some time to come to terms with the fact that I no longer needed to do all of that.
I stepped out of my bedroom an hour later and bumped into Axel who was coming out of his. He was dressed the most casually I had ever seen him, a simple T-shirt and pyjama trousers.
He was brushing his teeth while typing on his phone with the other hand.
“Um…hi,” I blurted before I could control it.
He looked up from his phone, scanned me from top to bottom before nodding and heading back into the room.
Ordinarily, I would have thought he was being rude but after spending so much time around Axel, I came to know that he avoided conversations as much as possible.
The pack house was still humming with excitement and gossip in the aftermath of the Alpha banquet. As I passed by the different rooms to head to the kitchen, I heard my name at least five times.
It was difficult to resist the urge to listen in, just to hear what they were saying.
As I crossed the dining room, all the people in there fell silent, staring brazenly at me.
At least, the others were subtle enough. They were not even trying to hide the fact that they were talking about me before I entered.
“Good afternoon, Luna,” one of them greeted.
My mouth opened to tell her to call me Chloe and then, I decided against it. If not her, the others were going to keep doing it anyway.
“Lunch is over, right?” I asked, walking towards the kitchen.
Before I could cross the threshold, two of the warriors darted from their tables and blocked my path.
My brow quirked as I looked up at them. “And you are?”
“Alpha told us not to let you into the kitchen anymore. We can serve you if you need us to.”

Alpha. Which Alpha? Axel or Paul?
But asking that question out loud was practically treasonous. It meant that I was practically implying that there was direct contest to Paul’s position.
Yes, Axel was his son but he would not be the first Alpha heir in history to be punished or eliminated because of
treason.
I turned and sat at a random dining table, crossing my arms over my chest.
Everyone kept staring at me. “What is it?” I asked through gritted teeth and they gestured with her eyes towards the Alpha table.
The table that was hardly ever full because it was a rare occurrence to see all the members of the Alpha family at a meal at the same time.
It was so rare that it had not happened since I came to live in the pack house.
I picked myself up and went to the Alpha table, avoiding the first five seats and seating at the very edge.
It would not surprise me if someone materialized out of nowhere and picked a fight with me for seating in their
