My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 26

Chapter 26

Chloe’s POV

“That was embarrassing.”

I caught myself before I stumbled as I glanced up at Axel. “Excuse me?”

His hands were tucked into the pockets of his jeans as he slowed down to match my strides. “That mistake at the. table. It was embarrassing. You need to brush up on your etiquette.”

My lips parted at his harsh tone but he was right. If I had made that mistake in front of other guests, it would look horrible for the pack, particularly Luna Diane, since it was common knowledge that she was training me.

When Jax was Alpha, he did not care much for etiquette, covering up blunders with charming smiles. So I had not focused much on it as well.

“Okay. I will focus on it during my reading-”

“No,

,” he said, interrupting me. “That will not be fast enough. After last night, you will have a lot of Alphas and Lunas who want to meet you. You need somewhat of a crash course…I will speak to my father about this.”

Axel walked on ahead of me into his office. Same as his bedroom, I had never been in it.

“Forgive him. He tends to be a bit cold,” Mara said, coming up behind me. Without warning, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around me.

The feeling of her skin on mine was strange.

“But he is making a point. If I want to be Luna-”

“Do you?” Mara suddenly asked.

My heart sped up momentarily in my chest. Did she know something about my arrangement with Axel?

Mara shook her head. “I am pretty sure what is in your head is not what I meant. It’s just…you never planned for this. Your sister has been the one being told from when she was a child that she would marry into the Alpha family.”

Her voice lowered as if someone was nearby to listen to us. “Your mating with Axel was sudden and an order from Alpha. And with all the shit you have faced recently, it would make sense if you did not want to be Luna.”

Was that how it looked to everyone or was it just Mara noticing things that could put us both in trouble?

My mouth opened, compelled to give her an answer but no words came out. Her hands tightened around mine.

“It’s okay. Most women who were not born into Alpha families plan to be Luna and they do it great anyway. You will be alright.”

Yes. It was just a few months to go. Despite the weight of pressure and Hannah’s attacks pressing down on me, I would be alright.

“I need to brush up on my etiquette,” I parroted Axel’s words.

A proud smile slipped onto Mara’s face. Suddenly, I started to wonder if Luna Diane had sent her to me.

I was still deciding if to ask when Mara turned around and dragged me down the stairs.

“Is the library usually this…desolate?” I asked, scanning the rows of dusty books.

Some of them had cobwebs on them and actual spiders building families in the spaces in front of the shelves. They had likely not been touched in years, if not a decade.

Mara gave me an amused look. “How many wolves do you know that read in their free time?”
