Chloe’s POV

The woman paused and looked at me with a raised brow at my question. “Sorry?”

I could not explain why her presence irritated me as much as it did. I wanted her away from me as quickly.

Facing the table, gluing my eyes to the book, I said, “I would rather read in silence. Thank you for your…opinions.”/

My tone was harsh enough to communicate that I did not want her near me but she was very thick skinned. She stayed beside me, now just staring at me as I tried and failed to read my book.

After a few minutes, I gave up and went to another table. One that should have been far enough for her not to see

But she kept staring.

After two hours, I had barely finished one chapter that would have ordinarily taken me a quarter of the time. An irritated sigh left my lips.

When Mara came back, I would have to ask her if I could take the pack house’s library books to my bedroom.

I heard the click of heels behind me and then, her voice called out. “Chloe.”

“What?” I snapped, my self-control on its last legs.

The smile in her voice was infuriating. “I will see you later.”

I let out a sigh when the click of her heels faded. Finally, she was gone.

Just as I had been about to lock in to continue studying, the door of the library opened and slammed so hard I felt it on my feet through the floor.

I was about to get up when Hannah’s familiar scent wafted up my nostrils, mixed with a man’s scent. A man that was definitely not Jax.

They moved farther into the library, towards the back, speaking in hushed tones. The conversation was sharp and fast like they were in the middle of a disagreement.

Since I could not study anyway, curiosity got the best of me and I stood up slowly and followed their scents to a back room of the library. If I had not been so intently focused, I might not have even noticed that there was a turn in the wall.

Hannah, on the other hand, strutted confidently. Just how many of her trysts had she had there?

“I told you that we cannot meet anymore,” Hannah hissed.

The man she was speaking to backed her further against the wall. “So I do not get to fuck you because you are with the Alpha’s son? It is not like I am telling you to dump him.”

She shoved against his chest. “Devon, I will not be doing this with you. If you touch me, Jax will know. He will smell you on me.”

Disgust crawled up my throat. She was not saying that she did not want to cheat on her mate. She was only concerned about him finding out.

Then again, I should not be surprised. Hannah had been found in a threesome in the forest on the night she mated

“You just want me to beg you, don’t you?” he asked, his voice low and slimy. “Don’t worry. I will make sure to wash you clean after so you do not leave a scent.”
