My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Chloe’s POV

Before Alpha Paul could move towards me, Axel tucked me closer to his body.

The father and son froze, locked in deadly eye contact with each other. The whole room held their breaths as they waited for someone to say something.

“Axel,” Alpha Paul said, his voice tense with warning.

“Not now, Father,” Axel replied, brushing my hair that was sticking to my face because of sweat. “Let us

talk later.”

His father was about to speak but then, realization dawned on him. “You knew.”

“As much as there is a conversation to be had, Alphas, this is not the time,” Doctor Edna said, returning to the room. “Not with a patient on the floor.”

Two nurses walked into the room, picked me up and laid me back on the bed. Then, Doctor Sylvia produced a thick syringe, filled with a suspiciously green liquid.

“Luna, bite down on this,” she said, handing me a cloth to hold down in

my

mouth.

My back arched off the bed as she eased the needlepoint inside me, pushing the liquid in. The pain intensified so much that my cries could be heard through the cloth.

The liquid was halfway through when my wolf took over, snapping and thrashing around to get the liquid away from me.

“Alpha, please hold Luna down,” the doctor said.

Axel complied and came to my bedside, pressing my shoulders with a balance of carefulness and force.

I stayed down until everything was inside me, tears burning the back of my eyes.

Why the hell did the antidote hurt more than the poison itself?

“Everything should be fine for now,” Doctor Edna said. “A bit of pain and vomiting should be expected but it is nothing serious…”

Just as the words left her mouth, I turned to my left and heaved out green liquid that looked like what the doctor had just injected into me.

Instantly, the pain started to spread through my chest with an even worse burn than before.

She froze for a moment and then helped lift my hair from my face. “Hold on. I will need to get a stronger doze.”

She left the hospital room without explanation. I remained curled against Axel’s skin, forcing myself to

breathe.

When was this going to end?

“The antidote does not work on her?” Tony asked, looking between the bowl and the vomit in the

trashcan.

“Somehow, her wolf is strong enough to expel the antidote almost instantly,” Alpha Paul said. “Quite impressive for a child who has not shifted before.”

His sarcasm was dripping off his words. I wiped my mouth with a tissue and met his eyes, trying to decipher my fate.

Would he kill me or perhaps force me into giving him information about myself. It was not like I was hiding anything besides the fact that I was reborn.
